A Simple Desire

Some days, all I want is silence.
Not the kind where there is no sound
but to simply wallow in silence
and maybe peace

Nights are welcome as they bring me rest, but
the city leaves me restles
Engines roar outside my window
Radios belch out a constant hush
Footsteps fill the paved roads
The city simply never sleeps

There can never be silence
so I burry myself in text.

Some days, all I want is peace
Not the kind where there are no happenings
but to simply wallow in peace
and maybe silence

In the day, I hear chatter
Eyes on my shoulder
Voices next door, even screams
At night, bottles would shatter
and glass would scatter

There is never peace
so I burry myself in a myriad of games.

My simplest desire is to lay in my wake
and sleep
And never wake
Maybe then I'll find peace in silence
