Chapter 2
First period seemed to quickly end. Once out of there, I had to wait for lunch to see him again. Second through fourth periods seemed to drag on forever. Could time literally stop? I couldn't concentrate at all on what I was supposed to be doing.
Now finally at last I am here at lunch. Nate is not where to be found, so I decide to just get in line for lunch and wait for him.
"Hey Jess," y best friend Lacey calls quietly over to me as she joins me at my very vacant table.
"Hey Lacey," I replay just above a whisper. " Where is everyone?"
" Mr. Matlock kept them in late because too many people weren't paying attention."
" Then why are you here and they are not?"
" Hel let a few of us out because we were the good ones."
" Oh."
" And as always, Mr. Nathan Finnacy was not apart of the good group."
"Huh?"
" Nathan. He's still in Matlock's."
"What did he do this time?"
" He stapled all of Mr. Matlocks papers together. He took 30 or so pages of different peoples work and different periods, stapled them together and either taped or superglued them to to wall. Im not entirely sure which but still it was pretty funny."
" WoW. Somebody needs to tell him how to act. I mean really? That was really uncalled for."
"umm, Jess?" her eyes grew wide.
" "I mean that's pretty immature and stuff. Who would do something so ridiculously stupid? And to a teacher at that."
" WHo's immature?" Nate says standing behind me with his hands on my shoulders.
" Oh, uh, my brother," I reply trying to be swift about it.
"Smooth, Jessika," Lacey says a bit too loudly. I shoot her a look that could kill. she mouths "Sorry" to me then looks at Nate as he takes his seat next to me.
"What did he do?" Nate asks jolting me back to the little lie that I just told him.
" Um.. Nothing," I reply at a loss for words.
" Well, I'm sure whatever he did can't be all that bad. He's only 12, so he can't do anything completely ridiculous yet."
" Well Jess," Lacey says as she slowly gets up from the table. " I need to go find Michael. He's probably wondering where I am. I'll catch up with y'all later."
" Okay see you later Lacey."
" So," Nate says taking ahold of my free hand. " What do you want to do for the next hour?"
" Nothing," I reply pulling out of his grasp. My sudden lack of socialism surprised even me. " I don't want to do anything right now."
"Are you okay?"
" Yeah."
" No, you're not."
" Yes I am."
" Jessika, I know you well enough ti know that you are not okay. What's going on?"
" Nothing, Nathan. Im fine I promise."
" Alright. Let me know when you want to talk about it."
" Fine. Just so long as you know that will be never, since nothing's wrong."
He gives me a skeptical look and stands up.
" Where are you going?" I ask quietly, afraid of the day when he realizes that I don't deserve him and actually truly leaves.
" Well you obviously don't want me around, so I'm going to leave you be."
" Nate, I didn't say that."
"You didn't have to, Jess."
He walks away before i can respond, leaving me all by myself. I don't know how I can let something so incredibly stupid get into my way of what I feel towards my boyfriend. I can't push him away otherwise I really will lose him. I guess I have something to think about now.
