" Who are you and why are you here. " My dad commands. The hooded figure lets out a loud sinister laugh and takes a step closer to our group. Before they can take another step a beam of light surrounds us stopping them from moving any closer. It's my mom's doing, her arms are held up facing the Shadow with a fierce look on her face. My dad holds up his hand and a ball of fire envelopes it while he stays looking at the figure with a look of pure rage. These are the main powers my parents hold. My dad uses light to manipulate and create fire whilst my mom uses light to create a force field. The four families can use all the powers that the light offers but it's exhausting to use them all at once which is why we stay in groups to help take the load off. I've seen them use their powers before when I was a child and they would train together but never in battle. They never needed to, Brilliance was always at peace and safe.
" I'll ask you one more time and if you don't answer, I'll kill you where you stand. " My dad growls out, his voice powerful and threatening. This Shadow just invaded the palace and made a move towards his family, my dad wasn't bluffing. He would kill this person without hesitation. The figure takes a step back before removing their hood. It was a young boy, he looked to be around the same age as me. He turns towards me and meets my eyes, I match his steel glare with one of my own. My Uncle Kyson disappears from his spot before me appearing out of thin air and blocking me from the boy's sight. So this is his main power, invisibility. I peek over his shoulder anyway and study the boy. The boy doesn't seem very worried for his life and instead looks smug, most likely because he got past the royal guards and made his way into this room filled with the Dreamlights. I look over his features and feel a bit disappointed that he's actually handsome for a Shadow, I was hoping he would be as ugly as his heart. He has pitch black hair and a charming face, he actually looks human. The only giveaway that he's a Shadow is his pitch black eyes showing that he doesn't have a soul of light.
" You can relax, " The boy says but no one moves from their stance, " My name is Aiden King, heir to the King Family of Shadows and I'm here to offer a deal. "The adults tense at his name and I see recognition on my parents face. This boy isn't just a Shadow, but a member of one of the Legend Families. No wonder he isn't ugly, Legend families don't look like any other Shadows. The Legend families rival our own so why would he risk coming here alone? And what deal is he talking about? My dad seems to be thinking the same thing as he speaks up, " You think you can just invade my Kingdom to propose some deal and I wouldn't kill you? " Aiden shrugs and gives my dad a lazy smile. He walks in front of my Uncle Kyson and stands on his tippy toes.
" Hello Princess Aurora, you're as beautiful as the rumors say. " Eren's dad, Uncle Alec cuts in and flings the Shadow across the room. Huh, telekinesis? He doesn't look like the type, he looks more like the invisibility type than Uncle Kyson does. The Shadow stands up and cracks his neck before walking back towards us. " You will leave the princess alone " Eren's dad grounds out, gritting his teeth together.
" Right got it, don't address the princess. " The Shadow or Aiden jokes, " But sadly, I can't leave her alone." My dad looks confused for a second before masking it with a blank expression. "What exactly is this deal you speak of?" At this the boy smiles and grabs a chair near him before plopping down on it.
" Well, its like a trade deal, " he starts. " I leave your lovely country and throne alone but in exchange, you hand over your precious princess to me. " My dad lets out a loud snort before his expression turns into one of fury. He throws the ball of fire he's been holding directly at the boy and the boy ducks away just in time, the chair not so lucky. The adults move around and surround me in what I can only describe as a human shield whilst my dad moves through the force field and heads toward Aiden. Aiden shoots up from where he landed and smiles like he's ready for a fight. He wants me? My heart hammers in my chest as I fully take in the situation. The Shadows are back and want me in exchange for leaving Brilliance alone and unharmed. They're crazy if they thought my parents would hand me over without a fight. My dad and Aiden begin to get into a fist fight, Aiden on defense and my dad on offense. The rest of us seem to watch, standing on guard waiting for something to happen. I may not have powers but I'm not entirely worthless. I make up for my lack of powers with fighting skills honed from when I was a kid until now. My dad conjures up fire once again and a ring of fire erupts around them.
" You think you could come here alone and threaten me and my family? " My dad shouts and grabs Aiden by the neck and squeezing, " What is your game here? " Aiden lets out what sounds like a small laugh and smiles turning to look at me, his eyes full of amusement. " Who said I came alone? " he chokes out. My heart sinks to the bottom of my chest as shadows begin to fill the room and surround us. There has to be dozens of them and they're still coming. Luna's mom lets out a curse under her breath and my mom drops one hand to grab one of mines. I squeeze it hard and make eye contact with her.
" Aurora you need to run and get Karson and the others. " My mom whispers to me, the other parents nod in agreement. I shake my head violently and squeeze her hand once more. " No, " I argue, my voice shaking " I can not leave you guys here. I will not. " My mom gives me a small smile and turns to my aunties and uncles before nodding. At her cue, they turn towards the Shadows and join the fight. They're strong but the Shadows keep coming, how will they get out of here? No, Aurora. They're strong, they are the four families. They will be just fine. My dad abandons his fight with Aiden to get to me and my mom. Shadows jump at him but he uses telekinesis to throw them and fire to kill them. He gets to us in no time and looks us over for any injuries but my moms shield is still up so no Shadows have gotten to us yet.
" Arson we're fine. " My mom assures him but I can see the exhaustion in her eyes from keeping the shield up this long. He shuts his eyes tightly before opening them, and I seen something that I've never seen before. My dad was crying, tears begin to form in my eyes at the sight of it. He looks at me in the eyes and gives me another one of his smiles, " Aurora you need to go. "
" No dad I can fight, " I argue, " I can help, I can't leave you guys here please. " He shakes his head and hugs me tightly, " No Aurora you can't. You need to get out of this alive and be queen. " A tear falls out of my eye and my mom wipes it away before kissing my forehead.
" I love you my princess. " My dad whispers to me but it sounds loud and clear in my head, he's saying goodbye. Tears continue to flow freely and I hug him tightly not wanting to let go. I feel another pair of arms around me and look up to see my mom crying herself.
" I love you, my brightest light. "
My heart shatters and I begin to sob uncontrollably trying to convince them to let me help. My mom lets go and turns to my dad before nodding. My dad lifts one hand and I go flying through the room until I land outside of the library and away from the fight.
"No!" I cry out, " I love you guys" I stand and a Shadow tries to leap through the doors at me but light erupts in front of the door keeping any Shadows from leaving the room. It' s my mom, saving me once again. I turn to stare at my parents through the shield. I watch as they link their hands together and giving me a small smile before turning and joining the fight again. I pull myself together, wiping my eyes and willing myself not to cry. It takes everything in me to turn and run down the hallways heading towards my friends's rooms. Bodies of guards and servants litter the hallways and bile rises in my throat. I run even faster as I try to ignore the bodies of my maids I've known my whole life lying in front of my door. I pray that my friends are okay as I rush to find them.
