Sprousehart are in their lates 30s/early 40s. They have a daughter named Claire who's 16.

Claire Pov:
I heaved my backpack back over my shoulders, shutting my locker before my making my way to the next class. Lost in thought, I zoned out, being snapped out of it when I heard someone shout my name. I spun behind me, watching as the most popular jock in the school, Ben Smith, came racing towards me. He skidded to a stop as he approached me, bending over as he attempted to catch his breath.

"H-Hi, Ben. How may I help you?", I asked. Sure, I was a cheerleader, and he was hot, but I was also a nerd. He probably just wanted me to do his homework like every other jock there. "Hey, Claire. I was wondering if you would be interested in going out with me? I've liked you for a really long time.", re responded.

My eyes widened in shock as I processed what I had just heard. BEN SMITH just asked me on a date!! "I- Um, yeah, I'd l-love to!", I stuttered. He twisted a strand of my hair with his finger, winking at me. "Great! I'll pick you up at 7. Text me your address, gorgeous.". He kissed my cheek before running ahead to catch up with his buddies. That really just happened. OH MY GOD.

The day went by in a blur, me skipping around all day and all the way home. I threw the door open, startling my parents who were on the couch. "Hi, Honey! How was your day?", my mom asked. I grinned, waltzing over to the couch and landing right between them. "I got a date! With... Ben.", I responded, muttering the last part.

"Wait... Ben? Ben, as in the guy you've liked since you were a little kid?", my dad remarked. Blood rushed up to my cheeks and I looked down at my hands as I nodded. The both wrapped me in a tight hug. "I'm happy for you, Claire Bear. Just stay safe, alright?", my dad said, kissing my cheek. "I will, Dad.".

"Well, what are you waiting for? Let's go get you ready for your date. I have to work tonight, too, so come on!", my mom said, pulling me up with both hands and rushing my up to my room as my dad chuckled behind us. My mom did my hair. Soft, brown curls draped over my shoulders. She applied light, natural makeup to my face, topping it off with my, or our, iconic pink lip gloss.

She shuffled through the clothing in my closet before I heard a squeal. My head whipped around. I found her holding up a short, pink dress that had a sweetheart neckline and some sequins along the bodice. I gasped, my arms reaching forward to touch the soft silk of the skirt. "I hid this in the back. It was one of my old dresses, and I knew you would need it soon.", my mom exclaimed, grinning as she held it up over my body.

Tears brimmed her eyes, and she covered her mouth with her other hand. "Oh, Claire. You look stunning, Baby!", she whispered, pulling me into a gentle embrace. She sniffled, pulling away and cupping my cheeks. "Alright, Hun. I need to head off to work. You have fun, okay?". I nodded my head eagerly.
"Of course! Bye, Mom. Love you!".

I leaned back into the couch, my leg bouncing nervously as I awaited Ben's arrival. It was currently 7:02. It's fine. He's running late. No biggie. I inhaled sharply as I tried to calm my nerves. He hadn't texted me. He hadn't called me. Maybe he's about to leave his house! I groaned, throwing my head back as I squeezed my eyes shut and clenched my fists.

Cole Pov:
I looked up at the clock; 7:38. Wasn't Ben supposed to be here at 7? Confused, I made my way to the living room, finding my precious daughter laying on the couch, with tears streaming down her face. I rushed over, the couch cushion dipping as I sat on the edge, wiping her cheeks with my thumb. "What happened, Sweetie? Why isn't Ben here?", I asked. She opened her eyes, then glossed over with tears. "Ben... H-He stood me up, Dad. It was probably a stupid prank.", she whispered, another tear escaping her eye.

"Oh. Baby, I'm so sorry.", I mumbled, lifting her back off of the couch and pulling her tightly into my chest. She sobbed loudly into my chest as I stroked her soft hair. Why would someone do this to my baby? Suddenly, I pulled away, wiping her mascara-stained, puffy eyes and kissed her forehead delicately. I stood up, her arms dropping quickly to my sides as I rushed up the stairs.

Claire Pov:
Muddled, I watched my father bounce up the stairs. I heard footsteps and shuffling coming from above home, in my parents' room. A few short moments later, My father stepped down the stairs in a nice suit. I raised an eyebrow. "Dad, why are you dressed up?", I asked, sniffling in-between words. He walked over in front of me, pulling my up by my hands.

"We, my lady, are going out. And no, not in a weird way. I just thought it would be nice if-". I cut him off, kissing his check quickly before pulling him into a tight hug as I giggled. "I get what you're trying to say, Dad. And I would love that.". He kissed my head, smiling against my hair.

Soon after, we were in the car on our way to a nice restaurant that my dad made a last-minute reservation for. We listened to music, singing at the top of our lungs with the windows rolled down, breaking into a fit of laughter after.

He extended his hand to me as he held my car door open, me taking it gingerly. We made our way inside, his hand wrapped lovingly around my shoulder as a waiter seated us. We ate our separate meals as we chatted, him asking how school had been going, and me asking how work had been.

Back in the car again, we were on our way home, or so I thought. I stared out the window, soon noticing that we had taken a wrong turn. "Um, Dad? Home is the other way...", I said, my voice trailing off as I watched him smile to himself. "I know, Clair Bear.".

He turned off of the road, driving onto a gravel path leading into a patch of thick woods. He glanced over at me as he pulled up to a river, a cheeky smile drawn on his face as he watched my face cover with a confused expression. "We're here!", he said, quickly getting out and opening the trunk of the car.

I stepped out of the car, my heels crunching against the gravel path as I saw him walking towards me, a blanket in hand. He extended his hand out once more, me taking it as we made our way to the edge of the shore.

I helped him lay the blanket down before he sat down, him patting the spot next to him for me to take, which I did. I leaned my head against his brawny shoulder as he wrapped him arm around mine, leaning his cheek against the top of my head softly. I curled my legs up, cuddling into his hold.

I closed my eyes, listening as the water rustled and the insects chirped serenely around us. I inhaled the calming scent of the woods and of the fresh water, also getting a whiff of my father's cologne. I felt him cup my cheek, kissing my other one a few times, lingering on the last one.

"Thank you, Dad.", I whispered. "What for?", he whispered back. "For taking me out tonight, for being my rock, for being an amazing dad, and everything else.", I mumbled into the side of his torso. He placed a soft kiss onto my head. "Of course, Pumpkin. That's my purpose. You're my world. What kind of father would I be if I didn't do everything in my power to make you happy?", he responded, grinning. "I love you, Claire.". I grinned back. "I love you too, Dad.".
