Now, in high school, the hardly-forgotten Mitsuba returns and Kou is just barely realizing this fact. He's going to do whatever he can to make up for misjudging the boy — and that begins with befriending him.Minamoto Kou was generally considered by most to be a good kid. Sure, he was rambunctious, wildly energetic, and has trouble focusing at times — but overall he was a sweet boy and well-liked his peers. So it was no wonder that in his first year in junior high he was voted class president.
For a long time in his young childhood, Kou had never known the word hate.
He liked to believe most people could be a good person if they tried.
It was Mitsuba Sousuke who showed him that terrible, horrible people do exist.
He remembers the day vividly.
As class president, he welcomed the new year to all of his fellow peers and gave a huge speech about the changes it would bring — fancy info like that. Kou doesn't really remember what he said. But he remembers being nervous as hell the night before and remembers Teru letting Kou borrow his bowtie to wear for the ceremony.
However in the middle of the speech, some mindless fuck (guess who) decided to clap.
Several others joined in.
It was haunting. And no, they weren't clapping all at once — but a group of twenty or so kids all clapped, slowly, and in unison. It came to an abrupt stop, followed by stunned silence. Then some boy, who dressed like a chick in Minamoto's class walks up to the podium, his hair in a low ponytail and colorful clips adorned his hair. How he's accesorized was not important, but as he's walking towards the podium, the words he speaks are.
Well, lyrics. He starts singing "Starships" by rapper, singer and songwriter Nicki Minaj.
At this point, nobody is paying attention to what Kou has to say. They're all too focused on some pink carebear looking punk belting out his lungs to pay any mind to what Kou has to say.
And as the boy sings, more and more people join in, and Kou feels his stomach churn. He's looking left and right, and once his eyes fall onto the boy with pink hair he notices he's no longer singing. Perhaps he stopped long ago. But he's smirking at him, and Kou, who has for entire life felt like he was genuinely liked by others knew that this man — er, boy, hated him.
This was only the beginning.
Throughout his entire junior high life, he was tormented by this guy. He's known of Mitsuba before — the guy was for the most, disliked by his fellow peers. His cocky, self-absorbed personality got him into a lot of fights, but he tended to stick around and hang around a group of kids who he was pretty sure didn't even like Mitsuba. But that still didn't change the fact that Mitsuba Sousuke was, without a doubt, a delinquent punk.
He constantly pestered Kou. Teasing him endlessly to no end. And when he wasn't talking shit about Kou to Kou's own face, he often talked about how good-looking his own face was.
