When ---- was first created, Shadster knew she was special in a way he couldn't fully explain, it wasn't just the joy filled feeling he got when he created his sons, Sans and Papyrus... It was a feeling of new found hope, a feeling of light in the never ending darkness they lived in.

Meeting Vinny had helped ---- be brought into the world, and though he loved Vinny very much and appreciated her being by his side, ---- made him feel like they had a chance to leave the underground. Until one day... Vinny was unexpectedly killed by the shadows he vowed to protect her from.

Vinny's death tore him apart inside, and with the loss of his trait he could wait no longer to escape the darkness that surrounded him and the rest of his family.

With his heart broken and no more options with the position he was forced to take, he did his best to teach ---- everything he knew about the extraction of souls in an effort to make everyone's dream of leaving the underground they were forced to live in come true, and a few years later he did the same with his second and third daughter too.

Only a year had passed when the next tragedy struck when Shadster's father protected him from being struck by an infected shadow, leading to him to contracti Fallen Shadow Disease. Shadster tried everything to cure him, but it was all in vain when his father fully succumbed to it and turned to dust.

He started to become desperate, with the loss of his mother when he was still a child, the death of his wife and the demise of his father weighing him down, he began to change... He started to take out his anger on others around him, especially his children... Especially ----.

Unknown to anyone around him, he had lost almost all of his sanity from the all the failures he had done and caused during his lifetime weighing him down to a level he thought he could never reach.

For years, this is how it stayed. Shadster forced ----, Levy, and Red to work, and took his anger out on any five of his children if they did anything he didn't approve of... He even went as far as to lock away his own soul and keep an artificial one to prevent his emotions from getting in his way, for they only slowed him down.

“I will not fail again, this is the only way.” That’s what he always told himself at first, but he could no longer see the wrong in what he did. ---- knew he wanted to succeed, but she also knew he was no longer the father she once knew, that version of him was long gone, and that version of him was the key to freeing them all. With his mind trapped in darkness she continued to do as he said, because she wanted him to come back, and the only way to help was to make their dream a reality. But… She already knew they would never be able to follow through with it before it became too late, and her own hope started to fade before long until one year later.
