The sun rose, it's rays extending and being welcomed by the spring breeze like old friends. Illuminating the world and the village of Croftmine. Croftmine was small, nothing special. It had a market and was approximately a few 100 miles from the city of Zimilion. A slow, pulsating, dark and deep river ran through it, connected to a pure blue pool that was surrounded by white rocks and jewels rich in colour that sparkled off of the friendly sun-rays. Nobody ever stole the crystals, they were highly regarded in the world of Mevathon and treated as religious artifacts. Skeletons were often found with the small spheres of crystal in their palms, as if ancient magics where striking down all who dared intrude on their area of peace. Croftmine, although small, was a loud and boisterous town due to the strange battle of the river. The warriors of Croftmine sharpened their blades, carved from the white stone and embedded with one of the many Jewels. Special incantations and rituals were completed by the grand mage of Croftmine to bond the Jewel to the warriors, this way no other warrior could possibly use the weapon on penalty of death. The weapon could be any Melee weapon or small shards could be extracted and placed on bows, they were also used as pools of energy and magic, banishing the dark beasts and keeping them from plaguing The White Pools and the world of Mevathon, the dark beasts were an unknown race from the stars, stripped of their technology by a dark plague that re-animated their bodies. It is said that they were much like the beings of Mezathon, except they were more advanced, an older race of people. They had no ties to the planet of Mezathon however. The dark beasts were said to lurk in the shadows and come out at night in armies, only the spheres could protect against them and that is why Croftmine was so fabled, because it was the only town that even bore a resistance to the Dark Beasts. Although it was a losing battle.
The rain bellowed down on the wooden huts of Croftmine, it's bombardment causing no damage, only ignorance and annoyance that seemed to radiate from the homes of the villagers. There was a faint figure outside of one of the many huts, baring a scythe that was embedded with a bright white opal, it's sleek blade carved from the white rock and formed into metal by the magical energy radiating from the bright jewel. The figure raised the scythe and pushed it against the wall. The persons name was Jadek, a young boy who had just left the academy and had been granted his weapon that would serve him for life. He was a good fighter but there was something wrong with him, he was born with black hair and had a large black birthmark on his back, a very uncommon thing in Croftmine, were everyone had well-kept blond or white hair, whereas Jadek's was unkept and slightly curly, with medium length bangs covering his left eye. A lightning bolt of White decorated the edge of the bangs, and his skin was deathly pale and he was very skinny, with long spindly arms and muscled legs. He was a very fast runner and climber. He was feared in the town of Croftmine, many had tried to kill him as a baby, but all had failed, the Grand mage had wanted to see things play out, the boy clearly had an important future, his was something unheard of. It still didn't manage to stop people from trying, but all of these people were killed before they could attempt, with plans found in their homesteads or pockets. Jadek donned a black jacket that reached his knees, underneath he had a clean, white shirt and he donned black trousers with leather knee guards, he was a fast fighter and whereas most other warriors wore armour, he did not want to be crippled by the huge weight of the metal, instead prefering to use leather to protect himself. People called him The Shade-breaker. Some said that he was from a long line of mix-breeds, however his mother was a completely normal member of Mezathon, with no distincting darkness pouring from her. Jadek was a handsome boy none the less, and the girls in the village that weren't terrified of him seemed to be enamored by him, but he showed no interest for any of them. "Open up betrayer..." Jadek whispered through the keyhole of the door, his cold breath seeping into the dark and damp room. The silence was absolute and Jadek could here the man shivering and his son silently sobbing. They had bathed in the dark river and would now have to pay the price.
Treason was no joke, and once bathing in the waters of darkness you were never aloud to see light again. Death was the only exit...
