This story was originally supposed to be condensed into one single chapter but I decided to make it a book instead.

Wake up, get ready, go to work, go home, sleep.

That's his everyday routine ever since he got a job as a waiter at a new restaurant in his hometown.

His life is dull and he knows it. He just doesn't know how to change it, sometimes he even feels like he's just a machine to only serve one purpose; work. He shouldn't have moved back to his hometown, his life was way better in the city but his father forced him to move back after he gambled most of his money and needs him to financially recover.

Today, Alan woke up in his bed an hour early. He'd never woken up even five minutes early, this was something rare to him ever since he moved. Either way, he got up and get ready for work, he just have to trust that today is special. As he got on his bike, he waved goodbye to his father and cycled to work. He'd sold his car to pay for the bills.

Alan missed his old roommates dearly, but at least they still kept in contact through social medias. He parks his bike at the back of the restaurant and get inside, tying up his small apron around his waist as he walks in. A few of his colleagues greeted him, they were nice to him when Alan told him about how he was forced back home. "Alan!" A voice calls out.

He looked to his left and saw his boss, who is a friend of his dad. He smiles and shakes his hand, although the smile wasn't sincere. "You're early today, young man. What's up?" He asks. "Oh it's nothing. I just woke up early," He says and shrugs. "So... are things okay in your house?" He asks, knowing how tense he and his dad's relationship's been.

"Why do you think I'd come here early?" He says with no emotion. His boss nods and pat his back. "It'll be alright, he'll realise how much of a douchebag he is soon," He says. Alan nods at his words, his boss had been more of a father figure than his own dad. "Now go out there and serve some people," He chuckles and left the kitchen. Alan stares at the door he left in and took a deep breath, ready for another day of dullness.

Half of his shift was unsurprisingly unremarkable, he got confronted by an entitled parent once which made his mood even worse today. Then, a group of four men comes in. Alan walks up to them and politely asks for their order. He couldn't help but notice one of them kept looking at his direction, he'd gotten used to women sneakily taking pictures of him but this is the first time he caught a male's attention.

"Oh come on, Kyrre. We all noticed you got the hots for that guy," He heard as he neared their table with their order. 'Kyrre', the man who kept looking at him, smiled and thanked Alan. The man shrugged it off and go on about his day. Suddenly, he heard a glass thud and looked over where the noise came from.

A kid had knocked over a drink from the table he'd served earlier, Alan quickly went over and helps them clean up. "Uhm, hey," Someone called. Alan looks up and made eye contact with a pair of deep blue eyes, he was captivated. "C'mon!" One of his friend nudges him. "Shut up, Don," He whispered and turns back to Alan. "I.. uh. I've never seen you before, are you new?" He asks. "I just started working here for a week," Alan responds, a little amused by his flustered reaction.

"Let's cut to the point. My friend here really likes you and would like to know your name," The guy seated in front of Kyrre says. "What the hell, Martin?!" He whisper shouted. "Alan," He says. Kyrre looks at him in surprise. "Alan Walker," He smiles back, the first time he did with genuine happiness this week. "I'm Kyrre. Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll," The man blushes slightly as they made eye contact again.

"I'm Martijn Garritsen. Call me Martin," The guy from earlier says. "No one ask- Hi, I'm Don Schipper and that guy on his phone is Tijs Verwest-" "Shut up, I was gonna introduce myself," Tijs says, annoyed at his friend. Alan couldn't hold back from chuckling at their antics, they really reminded him of his old friends, Ken and Arjen.

When they were done, Alan was tipped £20 which is pretty generous having served them for the first time. He continued working normally, occasionally thinking about the group and wishing they'd come again tomorrow.

"Fuck!" He curses when he saw that his bike has been tampered with. It is covered in spray paint, the engine looks like it had been beaten with a bat and a broken side mirror, probably some rebellious teens. His boss had told him that there were a group of highschool bullies around who vandalise random things they'd found and apparently his bike had been their victim.

He isn't worried about the bike itself, he's worried that his father would yell at him for not taking proper care of it. He sighs and grabs the handle of his bike, he'll have to walk home with it.

While on the way, the sun is setting. Purple sky starting to show up as dusk eats away at the remaining light. Alan have to speed up his pace if he doesn't want to end up walking through the night without light. "Alan, is that you?" He hears someone calls for him. He turns around and saw a group of people. "Oh hi guys," He greeted.

"What are you doing here?" Tijs asks. Alan finds it pretty ironic due to the fact that they're hanging around the outskirts of the forest, which is a restricted area.

"Someone did that. I'm just walking home," He says and points to the rough state of his bike. "Oh, well it just happens that we're also going home. Do you need someone to send you?" Martin says, glancing at Kyrre.

"Thank you, but I can't leave this bike here-" "Don can take it, he works at a mechanic," Tijs says and nudges the man. "Yeah, I can help with that," Don smiles at him.

"Kyrre~ You don't mind sending him home, do you?" Martin grins. "I.. sure, I can send you," The man smiles awkwardly and leads him to his car. Kyrre waves at his friends before he drives off. "So.. what were you doing near the forest?" Alan asks. "I would tell you but you might tell the police," He says. "I don't mind. I hate living here anyways," Alan shrugs. "Well.. we break into restricted areas to hang out. We just finished discussing where to go next when you came," Kyrre says.

"Trespass into restricted areas just to hang out?" He repeats in shock.

"No, we're not a bunch of drug addicts! We just get inside old buildings, play some games, smoke some weeds and get drunk. Then we leave when we're done or when the police came," He chuckles.

"Sounds exciting," He says. "Exciting? Is your life that boring?" Kyrre asks him.

"Well... I used to live in the city. Then, my old man gambled all of his money and got broke. He forced me back here so that I can help him with money," He explains, something he did many times at work.

"Huh, do you want to join us tomorrow?" He offers. "Count me in! I'd die just for some entertainment!" Alan laughs. Kyrre smiles at him and pulls over when he pointed at his house. "Thanks for sending me home," Alan says. "When do you go to work?" Alan points to the clock, too lazy to say anything. "You don't mind if I send you to work, right?" He says. Alan shakes his head and accepted the offer.

He got inside and walk past his dad who's watching the television. "Why are you home late?" "Stuff happened," He nods curtly at his father and went upstairs to his room. That night was the first night in a while that he'd slept soundly, looking forward to the next day.
