In the future, romantic attraction is literal: each person is fitted with an electromagnetic bracelet which, they claim, will pull you to your soulmate. It's the day they turn the magnet on and you're waiting.

It was the start of spring break when it first happened when they sent the electromagnetic bracelets they invente which they claim will pull you to your soulmate.
I never given thought about it since I never believed in soulmates or even in happy endings. It's not that I wasn't interested of finding my soulmate but ever since my parents separated, my mom dying after due to a rare fatal illness and my father abandoning me leaving me with my grandparents to live with, I never believed about soulmates ever again and or even the topic of love in general.
So since then, I considered of living happily ever after a myth that only happens in children's fairytales or in fantasy written novels.
But my thoughts were still proven otherwise due to the fact that the town I live in have many practices, beliefs and tales told from our own ancestors about the topic and was passed on since then and as time flew by I became open about that topic.
It shocked me when these bracelets' stocks reached to our small isolated town we were living in, a mountainous island region of the country. They gave each and everyone on the island a bracelet and gave us a reminder that they'll turn on the magnet around autumn.
Long since their arrival, the electromagnetic bracelets started becoming a thing in our small place and a few small shops were selling them to those who weren't given and since then those shops were booming of people. Mobs of people started buying the product like crazy, it is a shock that they never ended up running out of stock.
I've always wondered where they get those endless stocks of electromagnetic bracelets.
I received this electromagnetic bracelet when I was a junior high school student. Though even they say that it's a bracelet that pulls you to your soulmate, it looks just like an ordinary bracelet but the difference was that it had this 4 black magnetic-like beads that were slightly heavy than ordinary beads, whic I assume is where the source of the electromagnetic bracelet pull, and designed on these beads were distinct etched symbols that look pretty ancient as these beads were braidedly woven together.
Hmm... I wonder what these symbols represent?
I thought as I shrugged that question off, lost in my thoughts.
I can never shake off the feeling of how surreal it is that every person in this world is destined to meet the so called "the one" for us.
Someone you've been connected to meet someday not knowing when or where. A soulmate. But since technology has flourished since then they were able to successfully create a bracelet that would give you the chance to meet the other person from the other side of the thread with ease.
In all honesty, I never hated or thought against about soulmates. To be honest, when I was young I've always wondered and thought of when or how I'd meet my soulmate. I've made plenty of pretty ridiculous scenarios on how would I meet my soulmate.
The only reason that's keeping me thought otherwise was because of the fear that maybe the person on the other half of my thread won't accept me for who I am due to my condition or the fear of to whom I'll be destined to ending up just like my dad who'll just eventually abandon me at the end.
