-Ten weeks before the gathering-

p.o.v. Tyraemon

festival- day one

The sun has not risen yet, or the first people are already in sight. The laughter of children fills the massive square, and people are greeting their long-lost friends and family. In the crowd I see familiar faces, and ones I have never seen before. This is the week that the whole clan gathers in peace and harmony. This week is all for the games. The representatives that will come along to the gathering will be revealed through different tests. The winner of each of the tests gets a spot, representing their species within the clan. Everyone over fifteen can participate, so usually one of the tests fills up hours and hours. Today, the first game will start at sunrise, and the entire country has been gathering at the square and village streets for an hour or two. My personal advisor nods his head, and I know that its time for me to get up on the stage. I take a deep breath, feeling the pressure of every responsibility on my shoulders, and walk onto the massive grey flooring.

"Dear people of my clan. Today is the day the games will take their start!" A loud cheer followed from the crowd, and several people were shouting his name. "We will start of the competition with a test of knowledge. All the centaur are allowed to join, I hope we see a lot of contestants. The test starts when the first ray of light hits the fountain. Everyone can gather in front of the fountain, and the centaurs can follow me for their explanation." With those words I leave the stage, a proud feeling bubbling in my chest. These are my people, and this week he might find some new friends as well.

p.o.v. Byss

festival- day one

I see him standing on the big stage and my heart flutters in my chest. His beautiful eyes shine bright like emeralds in the light of the upcoming sun. I hear little of his speech, and when the crowd around me starts moving my instant reaction is to follow everyone. I do not know what I was doing but I see some of the other centaur gather at the end of the crowd. I move toward them and I see Tyraemon standing in front of all of them. I immediately freeze when is eyes meet mine, and after a second, I break away and look down, so he doesn't see the red cheeks that have showed up on my face. His calm and steady voice echo's over the big space, and all the centaur look in the same direction. "Dear people, as you know today's test is knowledge. You will all take a test, and the last centaur remaining gets a spot in my entourage to the gathering. You will all get a number, and when the start signals sound you will get a paper that has a few questions on it. From this the people that reached the top ten scores will pass on to a small quiz. Did everyone understand this?" A mumble grows from the crowd, and hooves are scraping the ground which shows how nervous everyone is. We are told to line up and I stand behind a blonde centaur, that did less attempts to hide her attraction to the leader. I can hear her whisper to the male centaur next to her, and they giggle until someone pushes a numbered card in their hands. The staff member moves on to me, and I see they gave me the number 486. It surprised me to see that so many centaurs signed up, but when I look behind me, I notice that it was well over 2000. I feel my throat getting dry and raspy, and there are little white spots dancing through my vision. Panic is rising through me, and I am about to step aside when I hear a familiar voice behind me. "Hello, ae you alright? I could see the hard look on your face from up the stage." I turn around and stand face to face with Tyraemon. I squeal from surprise, and my face gets flustered. "I-I am alright, thank you." I manage to get that much out, and Tyraemon nods and moves on, and for once I didn't feel like I was a failure.

After a few minutes we got the test papers, and I have been staring at the paper for an equally long time. I take a deep breath and write down the answer to the first question. I am pretty sure its correct and I feel positive when I move on. The rest of the test is not much harder, and I know four of the answers without a single doubt. The last question is a multiple choice with, and no this isn't a mistake, 29 possible answers! I am not very certain, but since I am almost out of time, I guess for the fifteenth option. A staff member comes to pick up my paper and I give myself a second to breathe, before the waiting starts.
