The crisp morning air flows in your face. Refreshing you as you think about the move. Your mother, Rose, had separated from your father a few months ago and said that you needed to start a new life where nobody knew who you. But that was the thing that scared you the most. You had always had people back home who knew who you were and your family for being so close to each other. You frown at the thought of that being a total lie now. As you sit in the car full of thoughts and emotions your mother looks behind her seat at you with a softness in her eyes. She knows what you are going through. "Honey I know it is hard for you to leave this place but it's for the best." She says with a half hearted smile across her face trying to cover up the fact that she was also hurting. When you finally stop at a cozy house not far from town with a fairly big, clear river running along the side of it, your mom says, " This is it. Our new home!" She seems excited so you try to play along with the act. " Yes, our new home." Your mom frowns when she sees that you don't really like the idea. "Y/N, I know this isn't exactly what you thought our lives would be like but it is. This is our new life now." You look at her with a slight sadness in your eyes. You can almost hear her think that this wasn't the right move for them as she stares up at the sun lit sky with hard eyes. You give your mom a hug as you feel bad for making her feel this way. When you finish unpacking all your stuff and look around the house, you wonder what you might of been doing right now if your parents hadn't split up. You think about how you might be playing in the back yard with your dad while your mom was either sewing or baking. As you think about this image, you feel tears start to form in the corner of your eyes. You quickly rub them away as your mom comes up to your room to say that dinner is almost ready. You finish the final touches to your room and go down stairs to eat supper. That night you can't fall asleep. Half because you can't seem to find a perfect spot for your body to lay on the mattress but also because you can't stop worrying about what the others might think of you. Usually when you are around people you get all awkward and start to sweat. You hope with all your heart that you might able to make some friends and enjoy the year at your new school. After you finish thinking this thought though, you start to doze off and finally get some sleep. The weekend goes by quickly while you think about all the possibilities of what your school might be like. The day before school your mom tells you to go to the market and pick out some food you want for the week. She still feels bad about moving and wants to make it up to you. You gladly accept the offer and go on your way into town to scavenger for things you might like. You aren't very picky about your food so when you see the exotic variety that was displayed you get a little excited. 'I guess that one good thing that comes to moving here. I get to try out some new foods!' As you browse through the different types of fruits, vegetables, sweets, and smells, you spot a few things that you think you and your mom might like. When you get back home with all the extravagant items you found, your mom helps you unload them and put them away. You quickly run up to your room and get changed into your bathing suit to go swim in the river right next to your house. You feel happy when your mom joins you and starts a splash fight. She looks at you and says, "Hey Y/N, THINK FAST!" Your mom splashes you right in the face as you look at her in astonishment. You quickly fight back but your mom reflexively turns her back to you so the water doesn't get her in the eyes. You fall asleep that night nervous but eager to start her first day of school as the 'new kid'. And slowly fall into a deep slumber.
