"Just you wait, Kambe!"

Daisuke didn't know why he was remembering it now, it was a meaningless conversation between the three of you like always, speaking up when you got particular fed up with his way of solving crimes, you with your naïve justice, he never pay much attention to them.

"One day, you will lose something so important to you that even money can't return!"

Your finger pointing at him with a confident look on your face, smiling widely with a fired up Haru behind cheering you on.

That same fired up man looked so emotionless now, his eyes hollow, like a toy that got switched off. His head remain down.

"And when that time comes,"

The memory was still fresh in his mind, you pausing your sentence to look into his eyes with the corner of your lips curved up, not exactly smirking, but not fully smiling either.

Daisuke's grip tightened as he bury his face even further into the wet fabric, desperately choking back loud sobs.

He didn't care if his expensive clothing got dirtied, didn't care when the large raindrops came down on him so harshly that his back started to hurt, didn't care when your blood got on his hands and face, he just wanted to hold you close.

He remember smirking at you, amused by your little talk, he never believed that money couldn't bring back everything.

He just never thought that he would lose something— someone so important.

He had let those words slip out of his ears as you talk, hell, he was sure he didn't remember any of it after that day, too. Yet it burns vividly in his mind right at this moment.

"And when that time comes,"

He look up, hoping to see those dark circles around your eyes like always due to work, but those E/C eyes, heavy with eye bags were always shining beautifully. Much to his dismay, they were still closed shut as the color red continue to spread.

"I will be the one laughing at you."
