New York was a scary place, but it's where dreams were created. "New York?" He asked. His tone was quiet, but his internal interest was loud.

"You know the video you posted earlier?" She asked. He nodded. "Well, apparently a famous producer saw it and asked me for a record deal!"

"Oh my gosh! Mercedes, do you know what this means?"

"That I'm going to be a singer!" She answered joyfully.

Sam grinned from ear to ear and pulled her into a hug. "I'm so happy for you."

"Thank-you." She said while holding onto his support. But, they were quiet after, and the excitement of Mercedes news wore off quick. Why? Because Sam was not in them.

"I want to come with you." He said.

Mercedes looked up with a spring of hope and then grew silent. "That would mean the world to me but, I don't want you to give up your life for me. What are you going to do their?"

"I'll find a job or something. They always say starting fresh is good, and maybe I could find inspiration their."

"But," She began. Sam didn't want anymore buts, he wanted to come with her, but he knew what she was saying. He needed a life as well. "I want you to be sure of it. Make sure you want to go there and not just for me."

"Ok." Sam replied. "I will." She was leaving in a few weeks, meaning he had to find a spark of interest or passion fast.

------------------------------------

"So your saying you need a pamphlet for choosing your dream by the end of the week?"

Sam nodded as Emma began to search through her drawers. "Very specific but I'll see what I can do."

Just then, a knock was placed on the door. "Sam." A voice called. He turned around to see Finn waving his hand.

"Uh, just keep searching Mrs. Pillsbury."

Sam walked over to him, a little curious about why he called him over. "Whats this about?" He asked.

"I'm reminding you theirs a glee club rehearsal after school for nationals." Finn gave a look of concern when Sam didn't answer and instead held a confused expression on his face.

"Hello, dude. Glee club? Remember?"

"Oh, yeah. That was sort of a one time thing, you see, I was helping Mercedes realize her talent-

"What do you mean a one time thing? We have nationals soon and we can't compete without the twelve people." Finn said.

Crap. "But I can't, I have a job." He replied.

"You'll be letting the whole team down." Finn said as anger consumed him.

The whole team included Mercedes, and that was unacceptable. He's the one who got her the solo, he couldn't let her down now. "I'll make it up to you I promise, I'll find someone by the end of the day."

"Great, hurry." Finn said, and then he ran off.

"How about this?" Mrs. Pillsbury asked. She held out a pamphlet, but Sam was nowhere to be found.

-------------------------

"Glee club? Like where they sing and dance?"

Sam nodded desperately at the football player.

"Yeah...no."

So Sam was having trouble finding someone to replace his spot, but at least he knew not to talk to the football players, or the hockey players...or basically anyone.

"This is harder than I thought." He mumbled. He was now seated in the library, eying anyone who seemed the most likely to join. A tap was placed on his shoulder and so he turned around to reveal a boy with glasses wearing large gray headphones.

"Are you sitting here? Because all the spots are taken and you seem to," He looked at the table in front of Sam, "Not have a book in sight, or anything for that matter."

Sam realized he's been doing nothing but stare at everyone, which was creepy when he thought about it. "Yeah, sure." He got up from his seat, and the boy filled it.

"Isn't it kinda lonely sitting in the library all by yourself. Where are your friends?" Sam asked.

The boy gave an annoyed look and then spoke. "I don't have any friends."

Sam felt sympathy for him because he used to be in the exact same position. "Whats your name?" He asked.

"Roderick." The boy answered, headphones presumably blasting with music.

"Do you like to sing?" He asked. Roderick took off his headphones, suddenly growing interest.

"Yeah, where are you going with this?"

Sam smirked. Perfect.

----------------------------------

"I've found our replacement." Sam said who pointed to a slightly annoyed looking Roderick.

Finn examined him up and down. "Perfect, rehearsals after school."

"Wait," Roderick called. "Is this the club with singing and dancing."

Finn nodded. "Yeah, that's exactly what it is."

"Sorry, I'm out." Roderick put on his headphones and started walking the other way.

"Wait." Sam called. "I thought you wanted to join." Sam looked to Finn, shrugged and then ran after their only chance. "Roderick wait up!"

Roderick sighed, stopped, and took off his headphones. "What is it? I just want to listen to my music."

Sam caught his breathe, and spoke convincingly. "I was in the same position you are, friendless. Look, I know your scared, but these people could become your greatest friends someday. They could make you laugh, or cry, I know because my girlfriend told me about it with Rachel, but anyway, what I'm saying is you'll never know unless you give it a chance."

Roderick thought about it and then nodded. "Ok, I'll give it a try."

"Yes! Rehearsals are after school."

"Cool." He responded, and then he walked away. Sam had made a great accomplishment, it felt good to help other people, he thought. Maybe...that was the answer.

-------------------------------

Everyone was seated around the dinner table, quietly munching on their dinner. "I cant wait to see you perform at Nationals." Mr. Jones said.

"Especially since you got the solo." Her mother added.

"You can thank Sam for that." She said while smirking at him. "And, you can also thank him for finding a new glee club member so we can compete. Roderick seemed really happy."

"I'm glad." Sam replied, making his decision even happier.

"Speaking of that," This was the moment where she was about to tell her parents the exciting news. "I got a record deal and I'm going to New York!"

Her father almost choked on his dinner, while her mother got up and hugged her. "Thats amazing." She said.

"I'm so proud of my girl." Mr. Jones said happily. They cheered in excitement for Mercedes, and then she found herself sitting on the couch in front of Sam who looked like he was keeping a secret.

He grabbed her hand, the same thing Mercedes did when she told her exciting news, and spoke, "Mercedes, I know what I want to do with my life...and I think, well I pray, that I go to New York with you."

"Ok, tell me what it is?" She asked in wonder, hope.

"I want to be a teacher."
