It was starting to be routine to go to the fifth floor and go to the small food area, get a cup of coffee and go to my cubicle and lock in on the computer, put on my headset and start working on a computer program. But today something felt off, like if something bad was about to happen. Which was strange since the office is probable the safest place to be. A security guard at every floor. "Hi, Tara." Gloria said in a sickly sweet voice. She walked by my desk with her head held high and a cup of steaming hot tea in her hand. I know she doesn't like me. I don't know why, since my first day here, she's been giving me glares and I can feel when she is staring at me. She gives off hateful vibes. I try not to let her get to me, but sometimes I just want to smack her across her face and ask why she doesn't like me.
The morning went by like normal, me working on the computer. Gloria passing my every now and then and giving me dirty looks and glares. I didn't think much into it. Once lunch time came, I went into the food area to heat up my lunch. Some people are sitting down and some are heading back to their desks with their lunch. I decided to sit down at one of the tables at the far corner. As I was waiting for my food to finish heating up, I saw Gloria walking into the food area. I was watching as she was heading towards the microwave that had my food heating up. She set down her lunch on the counter next to the microwave and saw her take out my lunch and throw it in the trash. She knew what she was doing. I bring the same container and everyone that knows me on the fifth floor knows that it's my container. I even have my name written on it in permanent marker. I walked towards her, as I got closer I asked, " What do you think you're doing? You know that's mine. Why did you throw it in the trash?" I said while crossing my arms and putting on my angry face. She turns around with a surprised face, she really thought I wasn't going to say anything? "Oh, I didn't know it was yours I saw that no one was waiting for it and it was just sitting in the microwave. I thought it was trash." she said faking innocence. I know she saw me sitting in the corner. "You really think I'm going to buy that. That you didn't see me sitting in that damn corner waiting. Do you really think I'm THAT stupid?" I asked, I was trying so hard not to raise my voice and cause comotion. "Um, Yeah I do think you're that stupid." She said while leaning into the counter and crossing her arms. She had a very smug look to her face that I just wanted to slap off.
I don't know how put I suddenly got the urge to slam her head into the counter. I looked around us and saw that people were looking at us. I was about to drop the subject and started to walk away. When I heard her say something under her breath. "She really is stupid if she can't even defend herself." I think she didn't think I heard her, but I did and I was pissed. I turned around to face her, I saw that she was facing the counter again about to put her lunch in the microwave. I tapped her shoulder and the moment she turned around, I slapped her face really hard. She put her hand to her face and looked at me in shock. I looked at her with a proud look in my face and walked away.
I went back to my desk and went back to work. I didn't think much of what happened, other than the fact that I would have never done anything like that before. An hour had passed since the lunch incident and work passed by like normal. A small TV on the top side of the wall was reporting the news. Small blackouts were happening across the city. I looked over at the clock and saw that I still had twenty minutes left until work was done. I started packing my things and shut off my computer. I got into the elevator alone and while going down, saw a black shadow behind me in the reflection of the ceiling. I looked behind me and saw that there was nothing there. 'I'm starting to imagine things.' I thought. Once the elevator pinged I got out and walked to the bus stop. I looked at the time on my phone and it was three forty-five. I got off a full stop before my house and went to a McDonald's close by and ordered food.
On the walk back I put in my earbuds and started to listen to music. As I was nearing home, I got a strange feeling like something bad was going to happen. I brushed it off. I unlocked the door and went inside. I saw that it was way too quiet and went to search for my dogs. I saw that they were both sleeping on the couch and decided to head into my room. I turned on the TV as I was laying down. Bored and searching through the channels I left it on the news. Black outs were still happening around the city. I woke up and looked at the time it was around midnight. I didn't realize I had fallen asleep. I walked into my bathroom and saw I had a bruise around my arm. It was in the shape of a hand. I don't remember anyone grabbing me so roughly.
I bent down under the sink to get the first aid. The bruise looked to have a few spots of broken skin. I added ointment and wrapped it up. I looked up into the mirror and saw a figure standing behind me, I could see it clearly. It was tall and lanky, dark gray skin, it had a bony face and black eyes, its entire skin had scratches to it, its hands bony and long dirty nails with what looked to be dried blood on them. Its mouth was sewn shut and it had a menacing aura to it. It reached out to grab me, but I ran out of the bathroom, shut the door and climbed into bed. I pulled the sheets over my head. It was quiet and when I put down the sheets and looked over to the bathroom, the door was open and there was nothing there. I turned over and there it was standing next to my bed, I screamed and felt myself getting tired. I woke up a second time, this time was because my alarm rang.
