The Encounters

Towards the end of June:

I'm Nevaeh. I just finished my freshman year of high school. It's the beginning of summer vacation and I'm leaving the city to visit my Mother. I'm now getting ready for a 4-hour drive.

Last year, my mother moved away from the city for a job opportunity. I couldn't visit her during the school year so I'm going to live with her for the summer. She lives in a secluded neighborhood outside of a small town.

The neighborhood was pretty fancy. It had gates that acted like the security to the neighborhood. All the houses were like miniature mansions. They all looked similar to me; The same red bricks, The same brown paint, the same black front door, and the same window frame for each house. They all the same building structure really, the roofs were just shaped different.

This neighborhood is surrounded by cornfields.... making it feel like we're in the middle of nowhere.

The town was your typical small Midwestern town.
It had a Walmart, I think that's pretty cool.

It seems pretty boring here.

Besides my Mom, I don't even know anyone in this town, let alone the neighborhood.

There is one kid around my age that I've seen around here. My Mother says that I could be talk to him if I'd like to. I said no, for a couple reasons:

• Social Anxiety.

•He seemed to be self-centered and reckless based off my encounters with him.

The first time I've seen him:
I was on a bike ride around the neighborhood with my Mom. She noticed the boy right away. He was doing bike tricks in the street. He then looked in my direction. "You caught his eye," my Mom said. I didn't believe her, what's to look at? Besides, just because someone looks in my direction, doesn't mean they're looking at me.

I didn't take notice of him until he fell off his bike. He was trying to do an X Up Ride, but he hit the curb and fell. Luckily for him he landed on the grass, but he still looked hurt. He stood up, still aching from the fall.

He was tall...ish. He had a skinny figure, looked as skinny as a rail. He had the light blond hair that went went well with his grey eyes... and he wasn't wearing his helmet.

He seemed to zone out for a second before coming to the realization that he was on somebody else's grass. He snapped back into reality, hopped on his bike, and sped off.

The second time I've seen him:
I decided to go for a run. I was halfway done and I was in my zone. It was a good run; the weather was perfect, I wasn't getting tired (yet), and there were great songs playing.

It was great until someone almost ran into me with their bike and sped off.

I was startled! I was trying to figure out what had just happened because the event happened so fast.
I looked into the distance and looked to see who ran into me. It was the same boy who fell off his bike a few days before!

I was pissed because he ruined my run. There was plenty of room on the road. Why did he have to get so close to me in order to turn? Why didn't he ring his bell or say excuse me? Ugh! Whatever, it's over now.

I brushed it off and continued with my run.

The Beginning of July:

My summer has been great so far. I was doing exercises regularly, I'm binging my favorite shows on Netflix, and I'm already done with my summer project.

I've set up extra activities for myself just in case I get bored with my normal schedule. Today I have so I decided to do some sewing. As I was setting up my sewing machine, my Mom bursts into my room.

"Guess what Nevaeh? Since you always seem to be lonely and your by yourself all the time, my friend and I decided..."

Oh no. Whenever she uses the word 'friend' like that it usually means she planned something with one of her girlfriends. And whenever she makes plans with her friends, they usually end up in disaster.

She saw that I was in my thoughts. " It won't be bad this time. This is for your own good, you need someone your age to hang out with..."

Hang out with? I hope she knows that I am content with being alone and doing my own thing. But I probably need someone else to talk with in person. I FaceTime and text my friends, but it isn't the same.

My Mother continued "you know the boy who we saw while we were bike riding, well he has a pool..."

That caught my attention.

"And you were invited to come over to his house tomorrow."

I was confused "wha..?"

"He is my good friend's son. She said that he's been lonely too, and that he's seen you around and would like to meet you."

I decided to go so I can go to the pool. The only public pool in this town gave me bad vibes, so I never went to it.

Yay a pool day!!!!

I guess I can meet someone new too...that'll be okay.
