"That's exactly why I'd rather be a rabbit over a horse," You said, finishing up your nonsensical rambling. Your best friend Samone stared at your for a few seconds before smacking the back of your head and walking ahead of you. "Waaaait. What did I do this time?" You jogged trying to catch up.Ellie chuckled, shaking her head before turning to look at Dina to see her take on the scene in front of them. She watched you two giggle and your playful banter with furrowed eyebrows. Ellie decided to question her. "Penny for your thoughts?"
"Its just, I don't like that Samone girl. Its like shes trying to get inbetween me and Y/n or something. I don't trust the two of them," Dina's furrowed eyebrows turned into a scowl while Ellie's face crumpled in confusion.
"You have nothing to worry about, they've been friends long before you two even started dating," Ellie defended the two of you.
"Exactly my point," Dina grumbled under her breath, stomping ahead of all three of you. Ellie was always protective of you so once Dina was out of ear shot, she told the both of you what happened.
You and Sam made eye contact with each other and instantly fell into a fit of howling. Ellie's eyes went wide and she giggled, puzzled for the second time in the past minutes. Once Sammi calmed down, wiping the tears of laughter away she looked at Ellie.
"I know you're confused, I'm sorry. I just-" she couldn't contain herself and went into another fit which made your laughter start up all over again as well. Ellie sighed, her smile wide. "Anyday now."
You finally composed yourselves and told Ellie the story of how you once tried to date and how awkward and funny it was. You just were too good of friends to date and made fun of each other the way you do now, the entire time. Your kisses resulted in laughter, holding hands was a hidden joke, and anything further was unheard of.
After a while you all fell into a comfortable silence. You watched Dina stomp, much further ahead as the four of you arrived back at Jackson from your patrol.
You told the two that'd you'd catch up later and practically sprinted to catch up to Dina. "Hey."
"Oh. Hi." Dina was very short with you and that only encouraged you more to do what you knew you had to do.
"I really loved this time we've spent together. This past month, I genuinely have had a lot of fun with you. But-" She cut you off, rolling her eyes, "Yeah, you wanna be with Samone. Got it. Great, goodbye." She walked off before you could even explain anything and you huffed, but shrugged and turned the other way.
Nothing you can do about someone not willing to listen.
You went back to you and SammiSam's shared home, ready to crash on your bed. Sam was sat on the couch, reading some story. Or maybe it was your diary. You couldn't tell , but it was probably the latter . She flipped you off as you walked toward your room and in return, you just blew her a kiss. She "caught it" and stomped on it and you tiredly laughed.
You guys had been walking around all day and it had finally caught up to you. You yawned and changed into more comfy clothes when out of the corner of your eyes, you noticed a moving lump.
Your heart pounded for a second before you realized it was just Ellie. She sat up and groggily told you to hurry so you guys could cuddle. You smiled with glee and laid down.
She pulled you close, wrapping you up with her arms and covers before kissing your head and almost instantly falling back to sleep.
For reasons unbeknownst to you, butterflies fluttered in your stomach and now you felt like you couldn't sleep anymore. You turned toward Ellie and whispered, " I think I like another one of my friends again."
"Mm. Who?" She tiredly asked, eyes fluttering open for less than a second.
You kissed her nose and snuggled close, whispering a quiet, "You," before sleep overtook the butterflies and you fell into its grasps.
Ellie's eyes went wide and before she knew it, she was wide awake.
