Hey! This starts in Season 13 after Mr. Scratch. I do not own the characters except my own.
Megan played with her visitor pass between her fingers anxiously. She knew she looked like she didn't belong. She was younger than everyone in the elevator and dressed inappropriately for the place she was in. She smiled nervously as someone accidentally bumped their purse in her side. Finally the elevator stopped and reached the level she needed and as the doors closed she slipped out. She reached the BAU doors and opened them feeling a rush of relief. She walked over to the desks surrounding the room and set her book bag down on an empty one. Her mother, Emily Prentiss, had texted her saying she would land soon after school was over. She sat down in the chair and pulled out some of her homework and a pencil. Before starting she put her long brown hair in a bun to get it out of her face.
An hour later, she heard the familiar voices of the team. She ignored it and continued studying. She felt a tap on her shoulder. She put her pencil down and turned around. It was Slencer.
"You need help?" He asked sitting down beside her. She shook her head.
"Not with this." She said smiling. "Can you do my math homework for me though?" Spencer laughed.
"If your mother found out." He said looking toward the Unit Chief's office. Megan looked in the same direction and saw her mother writing something up.
"How was the case?"
"Rough." He said. "Really rough."
"It was a kid's case, huh?" He nodded.
"I think your mom took it difficult. She's good at hiding things most of the time."
"What happened?" Megan asked.
"It was an abducted child case." He said. Megan nodded. "Anyway, I'll let you get back to work." Spencer started to get up.
"Hey! Hey! You said you'd help me with it!"
"Never said that." He said walking away.
"I'll remember that!" She said with a smirk.
"Hey," Megan looked up at saw her mother. "You ready to go?" Megan nodded and gathered her things. She stood up and began walking.
"Hey, can we stop at JJ's? I forgot something there." Emily nodded as she put her arm around her daughter. "Also, could I skip school tomorrow?"
"What?" Emily asked as they reached the elevator. "You're kidding, right?" Megan didn't answer. "You're not." She was silent as they went down. "No, you can't skip school." Megan groaned. "Why do you wanna skip?" The elevator doors opened and they got out. They walked out of the academy and walked toward the car. Megan got in and put on her seatbelt.
"I'm just tired. I need a break." Emily frowned and felt her daughter's forehead. "I'm not sick."
"Are you sleeping?" Megan looked out the window, ignoring her mother. "Meg." Megan looked at her. "Why aren't you sleeping?"
"I don't know." Megan said looking away again. Emily sighed and patted her daughter's leg. "You hungry? We got awhile before we get home." Megan shrugged.
"Sure."
"What about McDonald's?"
"Yeah, that's fine." Emily pulled into the drive-thru.
‐------
"Hey!" JJ said giving Megan a hug. "You forget something?"
"Yeah. My phone charger." JJ let her inside the house.
"Megan!" Henry called running over to her giving her a hug.
"Hey buddy." Megan said smiling. She walked past him and walked into the guest room she used when she stayed over. She grabbed the phone charger connected to the wall and walked out. She walked into the kitchen and saw JJ and Will talking.
"You find it?" JJ asked.
"Yeah, thanks." Megan said. "I'll see you later."
"Hey, you okay?" JJ asked.
"Did my mom call?" Megan asked laughing slightly. JJ shook her head looking concerned. "Look, I'm fine. Just not sleeping that well." JJ nodded accepting her answer.
"Alright, well come here." Megan smiled and walked over to JJ giving her a hug. "We love you." She said.
"Love you too." She walked over to Will and gave him a hug. "I'll see you later." She began walking out the door.
"Hey! I'll text you if I need a babysitter tomorrow." Megan nodded and walked out the door. She walked to over to her mom's car.
"Alright, lets go." Emily watched her.
"I think I know why you can't sleep."
"Mom, please don't profile me. I'm not one of your unsubs."
"You partially don't sleep here because it brings you back to when you actually lived here."
"Mom, that was 10 years ago."
"But it was still traumatic."
"I grew up with JJ, Mom. She was a second mom to me." Megan said. "You know why I can't sleep at night?" She paused to look at her mother. "Every night I'm at JJ's its a reminder that you're not home. That we're not on the couch watching stupid TV shows and laughing. Its a reminder that you're out in the field. That JJ is out there. That one of you could die. And I don't think I would make it if you actually died. Thats why I don't sleep. Can we please just go home?"
"I'm off tomorrow." Emily said taking her daughter's hand. "And so are you. You're a basically a straight A student so as long as you do some studying you can skip. I'll turn my phone off and we can have a girl's day, okay?" Megan looked at her mom and smiled reaching across the center console and giving her mom a hug.
"Can I ask a weird favor?" Emily nodded. "Can I sleep with you tonight? I might-"
"Of course."
