*Bea's POV*

I brush my hair nervously as I get ready for my first day at a new high school.  I'm going into my sophomore year at a completely new school without knowing anyone there.

"Are you ready?" I hear my mom ask from downstairs.

"Yes," I call back as I hurry downstairs.  I put my black combat boots on and grab my backpack to get in the car.

~~~~~
"Have a good day.  I love you!" my mom says as I exit the car.
"Love you too, Mom," I replied.  I walk through the front doors and am directed to the gym to wait until the first bell rings.  I sit down quickly and take out my phone, waiting for the bell to ring so I can get out of that sweaty gym.
"Hey there.  Are you new here?" some guy asks as he sits next to me.
"Is it obvious?" I ask looking up from my phone.
"No, I just know most of the sophomores.  Except you.  Unless, of course, your a freshman," he replies, smiling smugly with the last comment.
"Well, I'm not a freshman, I'm just new," I say, starting to get defensive.
"Well, I'm Hank," he says warmly.  "What's your name?"
"Bea."
He is about to say something else before getting cut off by the first bell.  We both grab our stuff and get up to head to our first class.  Before he heads off he looks back at me and waves goodbye.  I wave back and then check my schedule to find my first period class.
~~~~~

I check my schedule again to find the room number for my second period class and see that I have history next.  Once I found my classroom, I walk in to take my seat and see Hank walk in.  He sees me and makes his way to seat next to mine.

"Hey again, Bea" he says while setting his stuff down.  I smile back at him.

"Hello everyone.  I'm Mr. Holt, your honors history teacher," the new teacher says while getting the attendance sheet out.  "I'm sure you all know the drill, just say 'here' when I call your name."

Not too long into him taking attendance I hear "Beatrice Greenaway?"

"Here.  Just Bea is-" I start to say.

"Thank you," he says sourly, cutting me off.

Not long after that, "Hank Morgan?"

"Here," Hank says, deciding not to add anything else.

Once he finishes role, he says  "You're going to do this worksheet with the person next to you.  There are history books under the desks you can use to help you.  Ok?  Great."

He passes the work sheets out and the class gets to work.  "World War 1, what fun!" I say to Hank sarcastically.

"Not a history person?" he asks.

"Not at all," I reply as I open the book to start looking for answers.

We finish the work sheet easily and continue talking until class ends.  Once class ends, Mr. Holt walks around and collects everyone's papers.

"So you said you're new," Hank starts as we're leaving class, "So you don't know anyone to sit with at lunch?"

"Not yet," I reply.

"Sit with me and my friends.  I've known them all since we were little kids and I can introduce you" he tells me.

"Oh ok," I say, relieved that I won't be sitting alone.
