As she continued her long trek home, Katie's tears began to slowly mix with the now heavy rain. The 8 year old wiped her face on the sleeves of her now soggy denim jacket, and sloshed along in her red rubber rain boots. She didn't mean to miss the bus home, it wasn't her intention. So when she had finally come to the realization that no one was coming to get her from school, she tearfully began the journey herself. She walked with no evident motivation, because she knew what waited for her when she inevitably did reach her home. She cringed at the thought.
Her Mother wouldn't look at her. She would probably exit the room upon Katie's arrival, as though she couldn't bear the thought of being in the same room as such a horrible child. Katie's father however would definitely not leave the room. He wouldn't leave the room until he was sure his daughter would never miss the bus again.

The thought of what punishments lay ahead of her caused Katie's vision to blur with tears as the muddy road tugged at her boots. The bright lights in the sky above her only seemed to worsen her vision as she was slowly pulled upwards into the heavens by what she could only describe as a spaceship.

"You can't eat the boy, but I sure as hell don't care if you eat this one!" Remarked an unfamiliar voice, as Katie began to open her eyes.

The room was small, about the size of her bedroom, but it was filled with bizarre men, with maniacal looks about them.

Suddenly they began to move towards her, as she in turn backed up against the rough grating of the wall behind her.

"Just clean up after yourselves, and don't let that damn boy see her, hehe, might make 'em a bit queasy eh kid?" Shouted sarcastically a blue man with an odd metal plate lining his skull. Katie couldn't help but imagine it as a metal mohawk.

As more and more people closed in on her she began to see what looked like a young boy, about her age standing next to the blue man. He didn't look frightened as she thought he should have, nor evil. He looked angry of all things.
She spent so much time staring at the young boy, that she forgot about the closing horde of hungry aliens around her.
A hand on her shoulder startled her out of her thoughts, as she began to literally fight for her life against ten men who were determined to eat her.

It was useless and within the first few seconds of the fight she had realized this. But that didn't stop her from fighting her hardest. She struggled against them and eventually bit the arm of one of her assailants. Who then roughly through her down against the wall.

Katie closed her eyes and waited for the aliens to come at her again, but they didn't. She peaked open one eye reluctantly to find the young boy from earlier standing in front of her. She was amazed to see the men stop and stare at him as though they were afraid of him... More like afraid of hurting him.

As the boy continued to stand in front of Katie, the blue Mohawked alien shook his head and addressed the group.
" looks like the little Terran has a girlfriend well ain't that just sweet, guess we can't eat her boys, might upset the little Star prince, ha ha."
He began a loud mocking laugh after he mocked the boy infront of me and soon the whole group was too. They slowly left one by one, until it was just Katie and the boy left in the room.

He turned to look at her, his left eye swollen and black. "Are you okay?" He asked boldly.
Katie didn't answer, so he sat down against the wall next to her, and held out his hand.

" I'm Peter Quill, but you can call me Pete, what's your name?"

Katie took his hand to shake, and quickly stammered out a reply

"I'm um, Katherine R-Rose O'Connel 537 Market Avenue, Starlien I-Indiana."

He looked at her for a while trying to decide what to say. She looked so small and scared, so he did the only thing he knew how to do: make people smile.

He grabbed Katie's face with both of his small hands and looked directly into her eyes.
" Katherine Rose O'Connel Everything is going to be fine because I saved your life and now you owe me."

He smiled at the end, as Katie's lips began to hint at a smile.

" No I don't! I was perfectly fine by myself meanie." She retorted in a mock angry tone. They both laughed looked at each other, and sat in silence, until at some point Katie felt a pair of earphones go around her small head and "O-Oh Child" began to slowly fill her ears as she drifted off into sleep.
