I slammed my tray down on the half cleaned table in the cafeteria. Jane, my best friend, followed right after me. I let out a breath of air hoping to relieve all the tension going on inside my head. But like always, it was there to stay.
"I swear every year the lunch just becomes less and less edible." I watched as Jane's face scrunched up in disgust while she poked at her food. I also poked at mine, wondering if I should attempt to eat it.
The smell of heavy perfume grasped my attention as I looked up at the two new visitors who welcomed themselves at our table. It was none other than Rosemary and her little sidekick Bianca. These girls were the vile creatures of West Valley High. Though to anyone else, they were just the two most popular girls at this school, as cliche as it sounds. I, however, did not worship them like everyone else does. I see them for what they are. They flaunt around their daddy's money giving them the thought that they are better than everyone else. Little advice to them, it'll get them no where in life.
"Alex, it's so good to see you made it to junior year. We didn't think you were coming back." Rosemary plastered the fakest smile on her face. I knew exactly what she was doing. And two could play at that game.
I managed to put a smile on my face, looking at the both of them now, all I wanted to do was throw my tray at them.
"Yeah, I'm really glad I could make it back. I know how much you two have missed me." Jane snorted from besides me, taking in the conversation.
"Shut up Collins." Bianca sneered in her direction. Jane smiled back as she raised her hand, flipping off Bianca.
Bianca was about to retaliate but Rosemary slapped her arm making her stop. "Anyways, we just thought we'd welcome you back."
"Oh there's no need. Alex already got that warm welcome this morning." Jane smirked. I let her take the floor seeing as how I had no clue what she was talking about. And with the confused look on Rosemary's face, I take it she doesn't either.
"What are you talking about?" Rosemary asked as she turned herself towards Jane.
"This morning in the halls. Someone already beat you to it. Matter of fact, I think it was your homeboy Rowan Santiago." Jane responded without hesitation. She gave Rosemary another satisfied smile before looking back down at her food.
Rosemary looked like she was about to explode. She was eerily quiet while she continued to stare at Jane before glancing at me. She still had a smile on her face but it faltered just a bit.
"Oh yeah. I did run into Rowan this morning, and he was just a sweetheart. Give him my thanks will ya." I blew her a kiss before waving goodbye at her. She scrambled to her feet before grasping Bianca's arm.
"Let's go Bianca." Jane and I watched as they fled out of the cafeteria before bursting with laughter.
I turn to Jane looking for answers. "So what gives?"
Jane snorted before she responds to my question. "Rosemary is like Rowan's little lap dog. They've been on and off but not in the relationship type of way. I think Rowan just keeps her around because she's an easy lay. But Rosemary is like in love with him, in the obsessive type of way."
I scrunched up my face. "Okay, even though I hate Rosemary, I still find it disgusting that he just keeps her around like that."
Jane shrugs her shoulders, "It's her fault. She sticks around even after Rowan has hurt her multiple times. He even slept with Bianca but Rosemary has no clue. Almost everyone knows about it."
