Ren reached up and clicked the button on his earbuds.
"Hello, Ren speaking," he said.
"Hi sweetheart, it's just me."
"Hey, Mom, what's up?"
"Your friend Brittany called a little while ago and said that you didn't make it home last night."
"Ah, I see. She sent me something earlier but I got caught up in some work I'm doing for a new client and never answered her. I'll shoot her a text in a few minutes."
"Those people have you working on a Sunday?" his mother asked. The disdain in her voice came across clearly.
"No, Mom. This is a private client, not one of the shop's. We met last night after I left Brit and Jaycee and since it was late, and she lives on the other side of the city, she put me up for the night so I could get to work first thing in the morning."
"She? Is there a possibility this could be a new girlfriend?"
"Unfortunately, no. Just an employer." He felt like he was lying to her, but it was true he was there to do a job. It only seemed complicated when he thought about waking up to the witch bobbing happily on his cock this morning.
"Unfortunately?"
"If you saw her, you'd understand, Mom."
Lethe had been standing nearby looking through a file that Max handed to her once they arrived at the mansion's server room. Ren had been caught slightly off guard by Max, he had been expecting a human and was surprised when Lethe introduced him to the rabbit morph. While the witch and Katherine had made it clear that her home was clothing-optional, he was relieved that the rabbit buck was clothed in a light blue shirt with khaki pants. At one time the his fur was probably brown but most of the hairs on his face had turned silver with age. The top of Max's head only came to his chin but the long ears on the top of his head made him taller than the human. Like Ren, the rabbit appeared perfectly at home surrounded by the blinking lights and whirring fan blades of the computers that monitored the house and its underground facilities.
The witch set down the file next to him on the workstation Max was using to test his skills. "You are speaking with your mother, correct?" Ren nodded. "May I have a word with her?"
Ren gave her a suspicious look, "Mom, Miss Lethe wants to speak with you, is that alright?"
"I don't see why not, what does she want to talk to me for?"
"I honestly don't know. Give me a second." Ren fished the charging case for his cheap wireless earbuds out of his pocket and popped the one for the other ear out of its slot. After waiting for the light to change from orange to blue, he handed it to Lethe.
"Hello there Mrs. Morley," she said, introducing herself in her posh British accent. Ren's head whipped around to look at her; he had yet to mention his last name. As Lethe made small talk with his mother, Max tapped him on the shoulder. Turning toward the buck, Ren saw him holding up the folder and pointing at the label, "Morley, Renford James."
