"Number 3 Kayla Ruff her parents are Stacy and Kyle Ruff" The announcer called. I was so happy to see my sister on the court with my mom and dad. Our school did a thing called eighth grade recognition. If you were an eighth grader who was on the sports team your name would be called and you got to stand on the court with your mom, dad ,and the other eighth graders. I looked over at my best friend Bethany. We both smiled. We couldn't wait till we were eighth graders. I can see it now. All of us eighth graders standing on the court with our families.* POW* "Ouch" I thought. Being hit in the face with a volleyball pulls me out of my flashback. "Sorry" yelled Marcie from the other half of the court. "We're eighth graders" I thought to myself. Coach blows the whistle. She starts talking about the games coming up. Mashed in the middle of all her word I hear "There won't be eighth grade recognition this year." My heart sank. I know your thinking I'm being ridiculous but I looked forward to it. I look over at Bethany's face we both look dumbfounded at the thought. I couldn't believe it. It was finally our turn and it is ripped away from us. Next she tried to cheer us up by playing a game called dead fish. I just laid on the floor. Well that's kinda the way you play but still. Coach could tell I was furious. After one round she pulled the eighth graders aside. She tried to explain why we weren't haveing one but I didn't understand. She said "Well now that we have a high school we don't want people to think they have to leave after eighth grade." I was even more angry because we had a high school last year. The grade before us got everything and everything stopped when we got there. We were all in tears except one. Her name is Natalie. We were all really close all of us eighth graders that is; Bethany, Marcie, Natalie, Becca and I. Natalie actually seemed happy. After practice we were all talking about it. Natalie said "Well don't you think it's selfish to have it." "It's not selfish to want to stand up there with your best friends and show people that we worked hard to get here and we are finally there." Bethany said. And that's were it all started.
