Chapter 3- What's happening?

Another day of the mental torture that is school. This time, I was actually able to finish the assignment in class, so I won't have to do it later. Most of first period was just spent on my phone.

     Wow. That sounds boring.

"How is this boring? It's better than doing school work," I mumbled.

Sounds boring to me, but I love doing paper work. You should do something interesting.

Then the bell rang. I can head to my locker and talk to Ryan. That could be interesting.

Even from down the hall, I could see Ryan waiting by my locker. A really tall guy with a dark blue streak in his hair kinda stands out. Especially when he's the only one who's not talking to someone.

     He's cute.

     "Stop," I whispered.

What? You're cute too! You're too awkward though. He's like a strong silent type.

"Please stop talking about him like that. I hate it."

     Why?

Ignoring the Author, I walked up to Ryan. He gave me a small smile, but it faltered soon after.

     "What wrong?" he asked.

     I sighed, "It's complicated."

"The more you talk about it, the less complicated it is."

"Fine. Well, yesterday I kept hearing someone laughing at school. I couldn't figure out who it was until I got home. This voice started talking to me. Apparently it's some author that told me we are a book. They said that they can control things like a god. Oh, and I'm the only one who can hear their voice."

Ryan silently stared at me. Almost like he was trying to tell if i'm lying or not.

Sure. That didn't make you sound crazy at all.

I sighed and Ryan just said, "We should go to class."

Awkward. I would think you're crazy too, and I'm the one writing your every thought.

I nodded, and we silently walked to class. How was I supposed to explain it without sounding crazy? Nothing about this sounds normal. Are authors even supposed to be in their own books?

We both sat down at our desks without a word. Strangely, the kids at the back of the class seemed quieter today. They were still somewhat loud, but they weren't yelling.

"Hey! Dude with the brown hair!"

It only takes one of them to disturb the peace. Next to me, I could see Ryan look towards them.

The same person continued yelling, "Hey! Dude with the brown hair and red sweatshirt!"

     Oddly descriptive.

Wait. I'm a dude with brown hair, and I'm wearing my red sweatshirt. I looked around me and saw a guy in the back looking directly at me. Is he trying to talk to me?

I pointed to myself in question, and he laughed, "Yeah. You. What's your name?"

     "I'm Oscar," I stuttered.

     Can I call you Os?

He got up, and walked closer to me. A small group of the popular kids, including Sasha, followed behind him.

The guy smiled at me and said, "I saw that you finished your assignment during last class. You must be pretty smart."

"Oh. Uh, I guess so," I mumbled.

     "That's awesome," he chuckled.

     "What's happening?"

     "What do you mean?"

"Why are you guys talking to me?"

You asked if I could make others talk to you. I did exactly as you asked.

The guy in front of me laughed, "You seem like a cool guy."

     "You just met me."

     "I think that's long enough."

I don't think so. Is this how people bond?

There was a gentle tap on my shoulder, and I looked next to me to see Ryan looking at me.

He ignored the other kids talking to me, and told me, "We should get ready for class."

I nodded, and turned back to face the other kids. Sasha glanced at me.

She stuck her hand out in front of her, "By the way, I'm Sasha."

I gently shook her hand and smiled, "Nice to meet you."

Pretending like you didn't already know who she was? Nice.

"You should come sit with us at lunch."

"Really? I guess I will see you then."

     You're so awkward.

Sasha nodded, and walked back to her desk with the others. I turned back to my desk, and glanced to Ryan.

I guess he'll be alone at lunch. We usually eat together, but how could I pass up on the opportunity to eat lunch with Sasha.

You know you could've declined her invite. You're really going to leave your friend to eat alone?

     "You wouldn't understand," I murmured.

Sure. Even if you have a crush on someone, you don't abandon friends. Think about how he must feel.

     "He'll understand."

Maybe, but does that take away the pain?

"How am I supposed to know? Anyway he'll understand."

Whatever you say. You sound kinda ungrateful for your friend though.

     "Don't you have friends?"

Of course I do, and I'm very grateful for them.

"Wouldn't they understand if you did this? If you're here watching my life, when do you hang out with them?"

They would understand, but friends come first. Also, they're going to be reading this when it's published.

"Can you leave me alone for a while?"

Fine. I'll be back soon though!

"You're the one causing these strange things to happen."
