As the school bell echoed through the halls Raven breathed a sigh of relief, her long and frustrating day at school was ending and she couldn’t wait until she got out her blank, silent classroom and feel the cold sharp wind on her face again. As all the kids rushed outside Raven was looking for one person in particular… then she smiled, her best friend Sky Smith was waiting for her outside the decaying iron gate with a massive grin on her face. Sky had a disability just like Raven she had been diagnosed deaf since birth but as time went on her parents fitted her with a hearing aid and she had become an excellent piano player and she and Raven had been best friends ever since nursery and ever since Raven had been going to Fulton House School For Special Needs, Sky had asked Mr and Mrs Gates permission if she would pick her up from school on Tuesdays and Fridays and they agreed, Raven rolled up to her friend her toothy smile still plastered on her face “how was school?” asked Sky “it was… OK” said Raven glumly Sky gazed at her friend with a heavyhearted look, she knew it was hard for her friend to fit into a school where she knew she didn’t belong. “Hey you know I’ve got some amazing news to tell you!” Sky said suddenly “What?”

“I’m going for a piano audition at The BRIT School this Friday!” Raven’s smile evaporated, Sky looked surprised that her best friend’s happiness had gone so quickly, “Are you okay Rave?” “I – I’m fine” said Raven quickly but she didn’t feel okay at all. By the time they got to Raven’s front door Raven’s eyes were shining with tears, she rolled her herself around looking Sky straight in the eye “Can I can I come-?” But she stopped when she saw the look on her best friend’s face “I’ll see what my folks will say” Raven smiled toothily and hugged Sky’s middle but one question remained however: how was ever she going to tell her parents?
