"Katie dear could you bring me tea" the old lady said from the armchair she hasn't left in decades
"Yeah" katya got annoyed every time that old hag invented new nicknames for her 'how the fuck did she get Katie' she thought to herself making her way out the room and onto the hallway. As much as she hated doing this she knew that sometimes we do things we don't like for money. Katya sneakily entered the bedroom, her glance was now directed on the jewelery box on the vanity. It was pretty big and old looking. "Alright let's see what this bitch has" she opened the box revealing 'a paper card?' katya got confused and searched the vanity's drawers. "Haha there you are you little shit" she said as she felt a fake bottom in the middle drawer 'pathetic' she thought as she removed it. She grabbed the little box that was there, finding a beautiful gold necklace with a sparkly green stone. "This should suffice for tonight" she quickly put the necklace in her pocket, rearranged the things she had moved around and made her way back to Mrs Watts with her tea.
"Oh it took you long enough. What does it take to have quick service these days" the woman frowned and looked dissatisfied at katya
"You're not at a restaurant or a care house mrs Watts" katya snapped
The old woman looked shocked in Katya's direction but didn't say anything.
"You can go now Katie it's late, you can take some days off to revise that behaviour of yours"
"See you next week Mrs Watts"

The streets are quiet at night, katya likes that cuz she can be with herself and not be seen. Whether it was that or the cold air hugging her warmly, she surely felt most comfort in the night sky's embrace. It was this setting that often brought waves of euphoria to the girl. Tonight she remembered the first time her mother caught her stealing. She was around 15 and was helping her mother with the groceries when she swapped a mars bar and a pack of marlboro under her loose jacket, her mother didn't know up until they arrived home. Your heart could break at the sight of genuine and deep disappointment the poor woman held in her eyes. And like a good Catholic lady that she was, she dragged katya to the church first thing on Sunday to confess and repent of her wrong doing, only katya wasn't the one to feel sorry or need forgiveness. When the priest asked her if she is ready to pay for her sin, she stood up and furiously stated "Repent my injustice? I've done no injustice, and I repent of nothing" she stormed out of the confession room and hit a painting of the virgin Mary holding jesus, the glass shattering, attracting appalled looks from the other church goers. Katya never entered a church again from that day.
**time skip**
The following morning came around, much to Katya's dread. She did many different things in order to feed herself, though most of them she wasn't proud of. She went to the kitchen to make coffee and sat on one of the stools rubbing her eyes. Her phone buzzed 'one new message
Tony: meet me out back in 5
Katya: u know I can't afford it anymore
Tony: dw ab that
Katya sighed and put her boots on, rushing down the stairs.
"Finally" Tony was just 3 years older than Katya however his manner and looks could as well belong to a grown man, you could never tell he was a mere 23. Katya knew how much street life toughens you up, seeing him and her old friends only gave her motivation to keep grinding.
"What do you want? You know I'm not buying that shit anymore, I'm saving up all I can" katya crossed her arms and leaned on the building she came out of.
"Will you stop with your bullshit" he didn't look impressed "Look I'm not here to sell you anything, just checking up on you" he moved closer and opened his arms "Come here lil sis I've missed you" they weren't biological siblings but considered each other as such after how much they've helped each other in the past.
"I hate meeting like this" she said after pulling away, grabbing a cigarette and lighting it.
"Then let's go someplace else. Got any biz today I could come with you" katya let out the smoke and nodded
"Cool. Let me grab my shit and we're off"
