Tears rolled down the young girls cheeks. She clasped her fathers cold hands between her own. "How can I become the new guardian? I'm not ready..."
The sick man put his hand on his young daughters cheek. "Dearest Nian...you are more ready than you believe you are." The man takes off the pin that was attached to his cloak, and puts it on his daughters clothes. She looks down at him with wide eyes. "It is yours now. Use the miraculous of the elk with pride." He gives her a weak smile.
"I will. I love you dad." She says, rubbing tears out of her eyes.
"You are the new guardian. Use this power for the greater good." The father gestures to the box on his bedside table. The small carvings along the box magically change, symbolizing the rise of a new miraculous guardian. Nian slowly picks up the box, tracing her finger along the Chinese decals. She gently kisses her fathers head, before he takes his final breath.
"I will. I promise."
