FINDING INSPIRATION
1. Don't try to write when you have no ideas. Staring at a blank screen can sometimes prevent your thoughts. Before you sit down to write, have one idea, character, scene, or setting in mind that you can work with. If you have trouble finding inspiration, try the following methods! They worked great for me.
-watch people. Try sitting somewhere where people pass oftenly. Pick out a person who is passing. Then, pick out a name for that person. Next you can develop that person. Where is he from? Why did he look that way? How old is he? What does he like to do? What is his house like? What problems is he experiencing? All of these question, and any others you come up with, can help you develop the perfect character for your story!
-reinvent something that happened to you, on the news, or anywhere else. Maybe you can look through old pictures and videoes to find a cool even that happened to you or a family member. Maybe you can watch the news or read the newspaper. Maybe you can think about that thing that happned last week, or even yesterday or today. Then think about who was there. You can change the names of the people [i love to name characters] and make everything more dramatic and big. For example, let's say yesterday i won the soccer championships. Then i can think about who was there. My team, the other team, fans, parents, coaches. Th setting comes next. A soccer field. So on and on I go until I have a whole scene to put in my novel.
-redo a classic (aka Romeo and Juliette, etc.) try reading any classic out there. You might want to find a short version of teh story, or a summary if you want to make ot quick. For example, take Romeo and Juliette, or the Twelve Dancing Princesses. Read the classic or fairytale and re-imagine everything. Maybe it's more current. If you put a modern day twist on an old classic or fairytale, it tends to draw people. I did this once and all of my family loved it.
I hope this helped you write a part of your story and never stop writing!!
