The night was just coming up when I pulled up to the large metal gates. I really did not need to come back here. It was beginning but also the end. This was a place where she knew herself and died. However, she can only refuse her father's request so many times and this time he didn't take no for an answer.
I pulled the window down and punched in the gate's key code. The opening of the gates brought in a flash of memories. I drove slowly, looking around, nothing had changed. The thick gardens with a pond where I lost my virginity, the summer bench on the other side of the compound near the pool where I realized the beauty and pleasure that came with anal desire. And right just by it, a storage space where I hid with my lover and knelt to gave him a blowjob, attaining climax as I tasted the sweetness and left me longing for more.
I heaved, I really didn't need this, especially since the memories were making me flash and flood. I pulled in the driveway, coming to a hold near the large oak doors that were just up a few steps of stairs. I looked at my watch, and with every second I wasted here, bidding my time to face my family, the more time I will spend in this place. I would rather leave as quickly as I came. Gathering my courage, I turned the engine off and stepped out of car, walking up the stairs briskly.
I was about to press the doorbell, when the door opened. A tall man with grey hair on his side met me with a smile. "Miss Loulind, welcome." A smile came effortlessly on my face, "Oliver." I walked to him, pulling him in a hug. "I see I was missed," he said, wrapping me in his arms as he hugged me back tight. "Terribly so." I pulled from him as he closed the large door. I looked at him, from head to toe. He hadn't change, he was still lean and always wore his suit. Apart from his hair, you couldn't tell he aged a bit. From this far, someone could take him as weak but he has been a master of this house since I was a child and defended me more times than I could count. His love and comfort made me look up to him as a father rather than as a servant and I treated him like such. "You're coat, miss" He said. "You never change," I said as I removed my coat and handed it to him.
"Where is he?" I asked without referring directly to my father by name. "They are at the lodging area." He said looking at me with a wave of sadness."They?" He lowered his head, a clear indication he was told to direct me there and nothing else. I wouldn't press him further. I will find out myself. I walked the hall I used to ran and race in my toy car as a child, remembering the sweet memory of my mother when she pulled my car when it ran out of battery. A wave of memories came back to me, her hugs, her kisses, her sweet sound of comfort. I touched the pendant on my neck, the last gift she gave me as a gift for my birthday before she passed. I was nine and I still remember, the last time I pressed my lips to her chick, the sorrow I felt when waving to her goodbye. It was as if I knew she wasn't coming back to me.
I reached the lodging area. It was an open space without any doors and a spacious sitting area. I walked, only to be shocked. There in one of the sofas sat Drew, my step brother and ex lover. Now, now, before you go judging me, we aren't related, not by blood anyway. Her mother was a single mother before she married my father, which was just four months after my mother's death. I resented my father since then and showed malice to my step mother and brother and me fucking him was just that, malice; a way to vent and I prayed for my father to find out he was fucking me, with all the public displays we did, until I fell in love with him and he broke my heart.
Seated with her back to me was Wendy, my step-mother. I never called her mother but she didn't seem to mind. My entrance had my father and step brother staring at me, which made Wendy direct her attention to the entry way. She smiled, coming to her feet. "Annie," she called out as she came to me and pulled me in a light embrace. "MaryAnn," I corrected her, despite the fact I have corrected her many times over the past years and she still didn't correct herself. She pulled from me still smiling, "come in, come in," she said, pulling me in the lodging area and making me sit next to her. I took my seat as she still held my hand. The woman was affectionate, despite all I had done the past years. She should hate me yet she didn't, something that always amazed me.
I looked at my father giving him a nod in greeting as he did the same. There will be nothing more. It was the only way we acknowledge each other these days if we weren't arguing with each other. I turned to Drew. "Drew," he also looked at me and nodded. He hadn't changed a bit, his hair was still silky, bright golden eyes, full lips, broad shoulder and ---. I looked down and breathed. This was not the time or place for this. It was no time to reminisce.
Wendy squeezed my hand. My attention turned to her. "A drink dear?" She asked sweetly. "No" I told her bluntly and turned to my father. "I am here, tell me what you couldn't tell me over the phone." His face turned into a sneer. He looked at Drew, who nodded and then turned to me. "I am making Drew the new CEO of Loulind Enterprise. It will be effective as of the beginning of the next week." I nodded. Eight years back I would have been mad, despite my constant disagreements, I wanted to be part of the company until things fell apart and I distance myself from the company and the family, following the direction of my mother.
I looked at Drew, "Congratulations." He was taken by my surprise in regard to the new information, considering I didn't want him part of the company in the first place and only decided to be part of it to push him out. I stood, "if that's all, I will be leaving." I was about to take the first step when my father spoke, "I am not done." I looked at him, seeing the anger making his face flash. "Seat." I would have decided not to just to antagonize him, but I didn't need a reason to prolong my stay here.
I sat down. "The new changes in the company will require someone to fill in Drew's previous position as CFO." I looked at him. He better not be going where I thought he was going. "It's you, MaryAnn." I would have looked shocked, surprised even but I laughed for a while. After the laughter faded, I looked at him with all seriousness I could master and said no.
"The arrangements have been made, the position is yours, and it's final" He stated with finality. It would have been idiotic for me to go against his word but that was me years ago. A woman antagonizing his father but still doing his biding, not this woman. "Say what you want, make arrangements all you want, I am not filling the position." I looked at him as he leaned forward, his face now filing up with redness. If he could slap me now and he would. His command is not used to being denied.
"You will do it MaryAnn, oryou will lose that thing you call a business." I looked at him. He can threatenall he wants, I won't budge. "I own the rights to your business name." Hisproclamation left me to a pause. The business was started by my mother and Ihadn't changed it in respect to her, I did it to continue her legacy, make itreach heights it would have should she had been alive. I was still indisbelieve. "I don't believe you." I told him as he stood up, "Believe what youwant, test me and there is no belief in the world, which will prevent me fromtearing everything you built to the ground. You are expected in the office onMonday." With his words as the final say, he felt the room.
