Chapter 1

Aizawa checked his phone for the text from All Might. He still wasn't sure why he'd responded to the request that he join All Might at the apartment in the strange part of town. Something about a field trip and he needed Aizawa's help? He frowned and knocked.

Scribe opened the door to the apartment. "Hello, Shota."

Aizawa froze at the sight of her. His eyes flashed and she held up a warning hand. "Don't you dare!"

"Don't you." He bit the words off angrily, but his hair had settled around his shoulders. "What are you doing here?"

"I asked her." All Might stood.

Aizawa scanned the room full of his students, all watching him intently. "What for?"

"It's a lesson." All Might followed him into the kitchen.

"A lesson?" Aizawa began rummaging in the cupboards, finding the tea bags. "You know what her quirk is, right? It's highly regulated. With reason." Aizawa found the kettle and began making tea. He set out mugs and put the tea bags in, then poured the hot water over the bags. All Might held out a hand for one of the mugs and Aizawa handed it to him, then took the other two into the living room.

Scribe accepted one with a gentle smile. "Thank you, Shota." And then she raised her eyes to meet his and he stumbled back in shock, realizing what had just happened, the mug tumbling from his hand and shattering on the floor.

His eyes blazed and his hair stood on end. "I told you not to do that!"

"It was done before you ever came here, Shota." Her voice remained mild. "You know that."

"Why?" His voice came out from his clenched teeth in a growl. "Why, after last time would you dare—"

"I asked her to, Aizawa." All Might stepped between them.

The interference broke Aizawa's gaze and his hair fell around his shoulders again. He glared at All Might. "You? Why?"

"I told you. It's a class. She has a very unique quirk. To my knowledge there is no other like it." All Might's deep voice made the whole thing sound so reasonable Aizawa almost wondered if he was making a big deal out of nothing. "I wanted to demonstrate it, but it's highly regulated, as you said. It would be unethical to use it on anyone else, anyone—"

"Anyone who has never experienced it." Aizawa groaned and rubbed the bridge of his nose tiredly. Then he pushed his way into the room and sank onto the couch, unseating Iida and Midoriya in the process. He lay his head back and closed his eyes. Being angry gave him a headache and using his quirk dried his eyes. Doing both at the same time drained him. He turned his head without raising it from the cushion to look at Scribe. "Give me the pages."

She held out two crumpled notebook pages and he noted her hand trembled a little. Was she frightened of him, then? He wasn't sure if it pleased him to think so. He didn't read them, just put them in his pocket and closed his eyes again.

"The way her quirk works is that whatever she writes comes true." All Might was explaining to the class.

"That's not exactly right." Aizawa kept his eyes closed.

"No?" All Might sounded surprised.

"Not exactly." Scribe spoke up, and he noted that her voice was stronger than he'd anticipated. For some reason that did please him. Maybe he really didn't want her to be scared of him. "I have to believe in what I write. I have to will it to come true after I write it."
