Chapter 19I tugged the coat closer to my body as I moved across the field to the main building. I took a breath as I stepped into the warm air. I walked down the hallway, following the familiar path as I walked into the sitting room from before.
I was happy to wait for Arseniy but the image of a sitting woman with long black hair and sharp grey eyes came into view. I stopped abruptly as I stared at her from a few feet away.
“Good Evening.” She greeted as she stood, her heels adding to her height. I didn’t say anything as she smiled at me, her lips curling up as her pearly whites peeked out. She wore a long red skirt with a slit that revealed her long legs and white heels, all accompanied by a plain, silk white halter top.
“Well can you speak or are you going to stand there and be rude.” Her accent bled through her words as she crossed her arms over her chest, her jewellery knocking together as she moved. I debated whether or not I should say anything and just leave but her voice cut through my thoughts as she sat back down.
“I’m sure there’s something’s you’ll want to know about your mother’s current conditions. So feel free to take a seat.” She patted the space beside her as my eyes followed her movement.
“I have nothing to say or learn from you.” I chided. She laughed as her hand moved to the table beside her, picking up a glass filled with bubbly liquid. She took a sip before placing it down.
“Then listen. I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt you to listen to what I have to say.” I scowled as she smiled at me. I am not her friend but it’s apparent that this woman loved to play games. Games that I have no time for.
“Why are you here?” She hummed at my words as she crossed her legs, the fabric of her skirt slipping off her skin to pool around her legs.
“I’m waiting for Arseniy, my dear. He asked me to wait here until he’s finished with his meetings. He emphasized that we’ll be having dinner afterwards.” My breathing hitched as I stared at this woman.
“I honestly thought that we’ll be having strictly business meetings but asking me out for dinner isn’t much of a professional move. But I’m not complaining. Our relationship was never professional after all.” My hand twitched as I grinded my teeth together. I quickly clutched onto my coat to keep myself from attacking Eliora. Rather than staying to find out more about her past endeavours with Arseniy, I left the room and moved to the stairs, climbing them quickly as I searched for Arseniy’s office.
I walked down a hallway, my eyes rapidly searching around until the sound of voice flooded my ears. I quickly followed the sound, moving to the door only to stop short at the yelling inside. I pressed my ears against the door as I listened to the yelling.
“Я сделал то, что ты мне сказал!” a gruff but clear voice protested. I leaned in more, accidentally leaning on the door causing it to crack open. [I did what you told me to do!]
I moved back, waiting for someone to shove the door open and catch me but nothing happened as the yelling continued. Moving to the crack, I peeked inside, quickly finding Arseniy sitting in a chair at the head of his desk. Across from him was a man in a suit. His grey hair was combed back and his beard was trimmed. He faced Arseniy as he showed his frustration and anger with his arms.
“Губернатор, мы уже обсуждали ваш платеж. Тебе нет необходимости здесь находиться.” Arseniy calmly spoke as he filed through his papers, signing documents. [Governor, we’ve already discussed your payment. You don’t need to be here.]
