There is a new enemy. Not the government, or war. It's the Rot.
The Rot destroys everything it touches; it appears as a thick vine like plant that looks like ashes. If you touch a corpse affected by the Rot... you will be unable to escape, you too will become part of the Rot.
Occasionally, something happens inside the Rot. It forms from corpses, humans and other animals alike... it creates strange new beings much like Frankenstein's monster; they appear like everything in the Rot does. Ashes. It breathes them new life. They are, in essence, a carrier of the Rot. They spread the Rot by simply existing. They wonder hopelessly, seeking anything to touch, to spread this curse onto. Some are fast, some are slow, some are hunters, and some are... human. What that means is... they remember everything from their life. Their loved ones, pets, hobbies, enemies... they often seek out their loved ones without even knowing that they're infected and dead. When they embrace their loved ones... they become The Rot.
No one can figure out a way to destroy it.
It is year 2098 and today, like everyone, we are fleeing our previous homes. The speed of the Rot various, so it's hard to predict when it'll be on the move; for many years, people acted like nothing was wrong, being provided free hotel access by the government if the Rot went near their homes.
Then the abominations started to rise in 2057. Before this, it was relatively peaceful despite the fact that the Rot first appeared in 2027.
A girl grabbed a few bags of things, and left the small white wooden building. Rot was beginning to set in, and those... creatures could rise at any moment. She couldn't risk it by waiting and arranging a moving truck, even if you could find one still in business. She has luscious locks much of the colour of a yam. They flowed freely like a gentle waterfall and her eyes were a light, spring green colour, her skin a peachy colour. Her step sister stood beside her, freckles painting her pale body and face. Short, light blonde hair in a bobbed cut; her eyes a bright, reddish amber colour. She looked up at her sister, "Why do we have to move again, Mona?" She sighed, "I'm sorry, Carla."
Mona, Alastríona Mona, wore plain black clothes, a type of woolen jacket that just sat on top of her shoulders and arms and didn't wrap around her torso. She also wore a green stylized scarf around her neck, black fingerless gloves, and black boots that came nearly up to her knees. On the other hand, Carla, Carla Senny, wore a cream yellow zip-up jacket with a white, warm fluffy material on the inside. White pants and white boots that came up to her shins and a piece of her hair in a ponytail on the side, tied together with a yellow cream bow. They were both dressed fine for the fall, and they were grateful for this. The economy soon fell after the rise of the Rot, and clothes were hard to come by now a days. Mona and Carla were ages 17 and 12 respectively.
"Mona?" Carla managed to whimper, it was starting to get dark. "Yes, Carla?" Mona sighed. She knew exactly what Carla was whining about but... there wasn't much she could do about it. They had to keep moving. She reached her hand down and gripped her sisters hand. "We'll get through this." She smiled, though it was very feint in the darkness. Carla nodding, "Mhm! T-that's right!"
