It all started when they were young. Isn't that how most people meet their best friend? In childhood when you're so naive, before you've learned what the world is like and what you should fear. So the story begins in 3rd grade when a little girl moves in with her grandmother and starts at her new school terrified but thrilled and maybe a little sad for the friends she left behind as well. This girls name is Anastacia. (Ana-stah- see-uh)

Anastacia is ordinary. This is the best way to describe her. She grew up in a quiet town in Apple Valley where she rarely saw other kids besides the little boy next door who she grew up with that was the same age as her. They were good friends in her mind but it's not like he was sad to see her go. She moved in with her grandmother so her father could easily travel the country for work. She would miss him often but she loved her grandmother and was thrilled to be living with her. After all who isn't excited to go visit their grandma who always seems to be ready with a warm tray of cookies and a glass of milk the moment you arrive. She figured that's what it would be like everyday.

Anastacia had been told all her life that she was beautiful by her family around her. She had bright blonde hair and shiny blue eyes. Her teeth were crooked but she never noticed because no one ever had pointed it out before. She was overweight too. Her family assumed it would go away as she grew but they were wrong. She grew up constantly battling her weight and the bullies who took advantage of it. However right now is the story of her youth. She is getting ready to start her first day of 3rd grade at Yermo elementary school. Yermo is a very small town and to this day most people haven't heard of it unless they are from there. She lives just around the corner from her school but her grandmother insists on driving her there. Not only because it's her first day but because she's still so little. She'll soon discover she's usually the youngest in her class but also one of the smartest. Where she wasn't gifted with looks she was gifted with brains. She walks through the front gate of her new school in awe. There were so many new faces many of which had bright smiles. She walked down the hall into the cafeteria, skipping past the breakfast line. She was too excited to eat. She had always been a very social child and wanted nothing more than to make her first new friend. Another pretty blonde girl named faith came towards her and introduced herself and offered to show her around. She accepted, excited to see her new school and, again, hoping to make her first friend. While faith was a sweet girl she was another very intelligent girl and Anastacia would usually get jealous of that fact. This made it hard for them to stay friends throughout the years. For the most part they just remained acquaintances.

When faith was done showing her around she joined morning recess and went to go sit down by a tree. Just then these two older boys, probably 5th or 6th grade approached her and took her backpack that she had set down beneath the tree.

"H-hey give that back, that's mine!" She said unhappily. That was her favorite backpack in the whole world it was purple, her favorite color, and had two puppies on the back which were her favorite animals.

"Don't tell us what to do beaver-teeth. If you want it back then cry for it" the first boy sneered.

She was confused. She didnt want to cry over her backpack and she didnt know how to cry on command. She also didnt understand why they were being mean to her. She was brand new to the school and had never been bullied before. She stuttered out an apology saying she didnt know how to cry and reached for her bag which they dangled over her head.

"Jump for it fatty" the other boy said.

This made her upset. She knew she was overweight but no one had ever said anything about it. Just that it was baby fat and that it would go away. She didnt know that through her time there her teeth and weight, the two things no one had ever really mentioned about her, would be the things that got her bullied the most. Eventually recess ended and the boys threw her bag and left to class. She grabbed her bag, brushing it off and went to her class. She was ready to meet her new teacher and hopefully another new friend.
