Hogsmeade

I only went into Hogsmeade to try and find a birthday present for my brother, but I was unsuccessful. He is always so difficult to shop for; he's so picky. By now, it was dark and I was freezing cold from being out in the snow and my clothes were damp. I decided to take refuge in the Leaky Cauldron- maybe get a drink to warm up and then I'll be on my way back to Hogwarts. I walked towards the pub, my feet crunching on the snow covered cobbled street, and walked inside.

I was met with an instant wave of comforting warmth, and I relaxed at the thought of taking my coat off and having a hot chocolate. I sighed a sigh of relief as I slipped my coat off to carry it, and walked up to the bar. I ordered my drink from a very tall and rugged looking barman and, as I was waiting for it, I leaned against the bar and had a look around the tavern. It was quite busy, as you might expect for a cold Friday night. In one of the corners, sitting at a round Mahogany table, was Draco Malfoy.

He was intensely studying a peculiar looking book, holding it in his ring- decorated hands, and running his slim fingers down the spine. He seemed to be expecting some sort of response from the book which he wasn't getting, and was become visibly frustrated. His blonde hair was falling in his face, and his eyes were narrowed into a sort of squint. He must have sensed me looking at him, because he stopped what he was doing to look up in my direction. I caught his eye for a second and was about to react, but at that moment my drink was announced as ready and given to me. I thanked the rugged-looking barman with a smile and decided to head over to Draco.

My relationship with Draco was a rather complicated and unspoken one. We were in the same house and had been crossing paths for years, but I tended to try to avoid each him. I had seen what he had done to others: poor Ron, Harry and Hermione being victim to his relentless, insistent bullying, his tendency to rip apart friendship groups and cause drama within Slytherin, and treat his own friends like shit. He wasn't somebody I fancied getting involved with, or who I considered worth all of the suffering he would inevitably cause. I had experienced my fair share of drama at my muggle primary school and decided that it was simply never worth being involved with, full stop. Despite this, we obviously had mutual friends, being in the same house, and had no choice but to spend some time with each other.

When somebody persistently tries to bother you and you persistently try to ignore it, some tension tends to build. There was a lot of unspoken angst between the two of us. I also couldn't help but admit that I was somewhat fascinated by him; his character seemed so inconsistent. I have a tendency to analyse people and try to understand them, even if there is nothing to analyse or understand. What I couldn't work out about Draco is how aware he is of his own subconscious emotions- I often wonder if he is aware of what drives so much of the way he acts. It's seen as strange for a Slytherin to see the good in people the way I do, but it's more that I just don't think anybody is as simple as "good" or "bad". Draco can't simple be a bully, or evil, or a bad person, and I was curious to find out more about him. That being said, he can be one bloody foul git sometimes.
