Lily's POV
Where am I? Why is the room so dark? What's happening to me?
"All your questions will be answered soon, I'm sure." said a unfamiliar, melodic voice.
"Who are you?"
"Relax, Lily. Just sit back and relax." said the voice.
"How do you know my name?" I asked.
"Wake up Lily, wake up!" shouted a faraway voice.
"What???" I asked.
"Sleep." said the voice.
"WAKE UP!" shouted the faraway voice. I jolted awake. The alarm clock was ringing loudly. Wake up! Wake up! It seemed to shout. Just then, my older brother, Dylan, ran into the room.
Everything seemed so distant, obscure. I could barely hear him as he asked me where his football gloves were. It was another nightmare.
"Lily, are you alright?" asked Dylan concernedly. I nodded absentmindedly and quickly rushed to the shower. I was going to be late to school! I thought the nightmares had stopped already. I didn't have any time to ponder. The house was a mess as I stepped out of the shower. My younger brother, Evan, was already zooming around the house, playing with Buzz Lightyear figures. Classic Evan.
"Honey, are you alright? Dylan told me you were shaking in bed!" said my mother, Sophia.
"Yes, I'm fine, mom!" I called back. I put on a white blouse and blue jeans. Today was going to be a good day! A great day, in fact. At least, I hoped so. My mom rushed out of the house to attend to some meeting for her new company, Flowishes.
My father was already off to Flowishes half an hour ago. Ugh, they left already. I didn't expect much more. They seemed to never have time for me.
"Hurry up, Lily!" said Dylan. he had found his football gloves and was beckoning me on. I rolled my eyes and grabbed my stuff, then hurried to his car.
"And don't trash up the car!" he added. It was his pride, a new BMW i8. Of course he got all the new stuff. He was the pride of my family, the star of the football team, and of course the valedictorian of his class. And to top it off, he was popular at school. Part of "The Golden Brothers," apparently. I had no idea what that was.
And me, I wasn't really that popular. I was known as "Dylan's sister," or "The Kind One." People snapped at me for being excessively kind. If only they knew why...
"Lily, what are you doing? You keep spacing out today!" Dylan complained. Apparently we had been at school for 15 minutes and I was sitting in the car like a rock. I apologized, but he just flashed my a smile and walked off to his friends. Immediately all the girls oohed and aahed. Today is officially a bad day.
As he practically walked casually off to his group, I tripped over a rock. All the girls laughed at me who say me. My cheeks burning with embarrassment, I hurried inside the school building to smash into something.
It felt like a wall. A nice, warm wall. Wait, what? I looked up to see the most gorgeous, warm pair of brown eyes I had ever seen in my life.
"Are you alright?" he asked. His voice sounded super velvety and smooth. How could a voice sound that good?
"I... um... demons. Goodbye!" I ran off as fast as my legs could carry me. Wait, did I just say demons? I saw him running towards me. The girls bathroom was right down the hall, maybe I could make it. But sadly, I had fallen into the belly of the beast. The popular girls were chatting, no lie, RIGHT outside the bathroom door. I tried to sneak by them, but I couldn't get past Amy.
"What are you doing here, nerd?" she questioned. All the girls just looked at me and stared.
"Answer!" repeated Amy.
"Oh, she's with me." said brown-eyes (that was my new nickname for him).
"Oh, Mason, sorry!" said another girl. Leah. The "Queen Bee" of our school. She was the most annoying out of all her little-fangroup. She fake smiled.
"But you shouldn't associate with people like her, they're so not your type!" she continued. My cheeks visibly flushed, I looked around for an exit. I saw none.
But then what he said next surprised me.
"I'll associate with whoever I want, Leah. Now get out of her space!" he said. She looked shocked, but fake smiled again and said she would continue this later.
I turned to leave but he stopped me by putting his hand on my shoulder.
"Don't listen to Leah, she can be a total brat sometimes. Anyway, I'm Mason. Mason Ashton. See you around, I guess!" he said, then he left. Leaving me completely speechless.
Why did he talk to me? I thought I was some complete random nobody? Except for being sisters with Dylan Allen, I guess, but nobody really cared.
I walked to first period, Chemistry. As usual, I sat next to my best friend, Bianca.
"Don't think I didn't know." she said as soon as I sat down.
"What?" I asked.
"Come with me!" she said. As the teacher was grabbing the homework sheets from the printer, me and Bianca dashed out.
