This tutorial is for Windows and Mac only, I haven't really used iPhone or Android to make a trailer, but I'll do my research later<3
Prerequisite (for Windows): Well this is already in built for Windows 8 and above, but make sure you have photos (app) and movies & tv (app).
Prerequisite(for Mac & Windows): make sure you have a gmail and open a YouTube channel with it, if you want your trailer to be directly uploaded to youtube.
STEP 1:
Download the software to use, we'll be using Wondershare Filmora9 (the free version),
here's the link: https://filmora.wondershare.com/
PLEASE take the guide or tour that will be given (it's really helpful).
Some important features of Wondershare Filmora9 - Free version:
You can download your own font,
Separate audio from video(which is VERY important)
You can download your own music without paying for it (how cool is that?)
Really easy to use once you know the basics
You can animate fonts too, etc
STEP 2:
Getting your music, personally I just copy the url link that I want from youtube then use a youtube mp3 converter.
My favorite is: www.youtube-mp3.org
Some other sites (basically just type in 'youtube mp3 converter':
www.flvto.com
www.youtubemp3.app.
STEP 3:
Now this is the hard part (getting clips), first before you get clips you NEED to research on movies that your book fit into,
for example if your book is about a vampire detective then you search vampire movies AND detective movies, then watch their trailers (try to vision what you want your trailer to look like),
also having face claims can make your work easier or harder,
for example (using the vampire detective), your MC is Dove Cameron (who has not much detective/mystery or thriller movies), it'll be hard to find the right clips from her, where as getting clips from Elizabeth Gillies would be easier cause she has been in a mystery or thriller movie.
Once you've gotten the right clips, gifs or trailers,
Download trailers using MP4 Video Down-loaders:
http://video.online-convert.com/convert-to-mp4
http://www.clipconverter.cc/mobile/
Just like getting soundtrack simply copy the youtube url.
Download gifs (clips) by right clicking and saving the image (make sure the gif has loaded fully before downloading it).
STEP 4:
Now that you've gotten your clips and music, it's time to open the Wondershare software:
1st: Make sure all your clips and music are in one folder (it makes it easier)
2nd: Open Wondershare (it should look something like this):
3rd: Keep the software open and navigate to the folder where all your clips are
Open them up and trim out the parts you want/need using the app photos for windows...for Mac I don't know if it's called photos but am sure there's something there too
4th: Import the clips and music on Wondershare
5th: Add them to your work area by simply clicking them, re-arrange till you like what you see
6th: Add some text, If you want a text on a blank area simply move the videos ahead of it or add it from the text menu ( tip: your texts shouldn't tell, they should show for example instead of using she's lonely and sad etc, maybe say 'a broken soul' then a gif showing her actually being sad)
7th: When you're done adding your texts (you might want to upload some fonts) and clips, highlight them and right click 'select detach audio' (basically removing the audio from the video)
8th: Once you've done No. 7, go to the end of your trailer till it's black (no clips) and add your music, then drag the music under the clips, adjust it to end with your clips
9th: Play your video from the beginning adjust as you like then export it:
You can export as a video or directly to youtube/vimeo
Side STEPS:
HOW TO UPLOAD FONT
HOW TO DETERMINE FACE CLAIMS
- Look at the movies your preferred face claim has
- Match their appearance with the character's personality eg: for a cliche nerd, Emma Watson is much better than Elizabeth Gillies in appearance
- Try making your character look similar to the face claim eg: my character (Gina) a cliche nerd acted by Emma Watson should be described as brown haired, thin pink lips, slight frame etc in relation to Emma Watson
HOW LONG SHOULD A TRAILER BE
Normal trailers : the average length, 114.2 seconds (i.e. one minute and 54 seconds) so at most 2:00, there are exceptions tho
Teasers: less than or equals to 1:30, there are exceptions tho
Opening Credits: less than or equals to 1:00, there are exceptions tho
Don't feel pressured to HAVE 2 minutes or 1 minute trailers
