Playa Cards Right : An August Alsina Short Story

Part Two: Motives

        Nicole's friend, Amy always was straight forward with advice. She always insisted two things, either Nicole got a man or a toy. Nicole's love and sex life were non existent. Nicole was an author. Amy was the first one to read her books before they went off to be published. When Amy read Nicole's latest book, she gave another 'Need a man' lectures to add to the thousands given before.

        Nicole was never the one to be blunt when it came to sex or being interested in a man. Nicole was old fashioned when it came to the dating game. A man couldn't look her way if they were not into committed relationships. She wasn't into one night stands or first date sex. She had to love who she laid with and they had to love her in return.

        Nicole thought about what her life would be if she tried things outside the box. What if she was the opposite of what she was. What if she was a risk taker? What if she wasn't so scared to be hurt by love?

       Nicole planned on acting on her thoughts one day. She planned on becoming flirtatious to see what it would lead to. She was going to dress more sexy by being less covered up. She also developed the mentality of the man. She was going to play their game just as good as they did.

        Nicole planned on going to see the newest hot guy on the R&B music scene, August Alsina. One thing he was known for was his post-show festivities. A few of those festivities even hit the net. Nicole hated groupies. The thing she hated was that they kiss and told. Another thing was those who laid with behind the scenes people. Nicole thought I'd she was going to be a groupie, she was going for the main guy. What was sleeping with a member of the instrumental  band or a roadie going to do for her? It sure wasn't going to get her written or talked about. One thing Nicole also knew about August was if the "cat" was thrown at him, he was going to take it.

          Weeks before the show, Nicole was talking on the phone with her sister, Janelle.

Nicole: Girl, you should see this picture of this fan and August. He got his hand on her butt. I'm not with that.
Janelle: Girl, stop lying. You know you want him to touch your booty.
Nicole: Um... Nah. I once punched a guy in the face for that.
Janelle: I gotta head back to work, my break is over so I'll call you later.

It's now two nights before the show.  August is set to perform at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Nicole purchased the meet and greet package. How will meeting August be? Nicole thought August was not approachable. She wondered if she would develop the desire to punch him when they met. She wondered what she'd want to ask him about. She figured she will ask questions without fear or a filter since he was so straight forward about everything. Questions flowed in her mind from what did he do to end up on probation to how many sex partners did he have, that's if he remembered. He previously mentioned that he didn't know the names of some he'd slept with. She planned to hit him with some wit during their conversation. She also wondered how tight he hugged, if he smelled good if pictures did him justice and will he take the bait.
