The Sandcastle

Fizzing bubbles of water retreated quickly from the pale sandy shores of the small island as if running away from an immense and undefeatable foe. Jinn sat watching the water in confusion, the lure of their fishing rod being drawn farther and farther out until the line inevitably reached its full length and the lure was left abandoned in the wet sand.

After a while of the water retreating it began to slowly crawl back, quickly gaining speed and a large mass of water. Jinn threw their hands in front of their face, creating a weak shield on instinct that would do nothing to stop the massive wave that was now heading inland. After several long and petrifying seconds of the water failing to carry them off their feet, Jinn lowered their shaking hands and peeked at the mile high wall of water that now stood only four feet in front of their bare feet. The salt water foamed, shifted, and swirled behind the invisible wall that held it at bay. Small tropical fish swam in panicked circles before slowly reaching a calm and resuming their feeding. Jinn took a step back from the mass as a dark blobbish shape drew closer to where they stood.

The blob hopped out of the water, making a large popping noise as it did so, similar to the sound of a cork being pulled from a bottle. A large and chunky fish with bulging, bubble-like eyes and fat lips sat in the sand in front of them now. It's eyes focused on them, both at odd angles that didn't seem quite right but still passed a calculating look. Jinn gaped at the slimy fish, it ignored their amazement and wiggled in the sand as if adjusting to a more comfortable position. Then it began to speak!

"Alright kid, I haven't got all day. What's it gonna be?" It croaked, the voice dripping with agitation.

Jinn didn't understand. What was this creature? Why was it here? How was a fat fish intimidating them? "What?" Their voice came out as a low whisper, it was as if they had forgotten how to speak.

It rolled one eye, the other stayed awkwardly focused on Jinn. "Don't play a fool." One of it's slimy fins flapped in the direction of the sandcastle Jinn had built several minutes before fishing. It was an average looking sandcastle, with palm trees sticking out the top acting as two oversized flags and sticks sticking out of the empty moat. "You're the one who summoned me, kid. Now c'mon, what's this wish of yours?"

Jinn blinked. What? WHAT? They had summoned a wish granting fish by building a sandcastle?
