Chapter 1
17. She was only 17 and she was having to deal with this?! This can't be right. Victoria had already had such a traumatic childhood but now she thought "If I'm lucky I might just need therapy after this. Or a hospital." It was 8:37 am and she had been covering a prefect duty checking ties at the main door when, a few minutes ago, all hell broke loose. Victoria hoped it was all a nightmare but it wasn't.
8:19 am. A tall man walked in to the hall from the front door dressed in a shirt and tie. His hair looked a dark brown and the top portion of his face had been covered in shadow from his hat. The man walked like he belonged there so he had been easily mistaken as the new substitute teacher. As he turned in the direction of the stairs leading up to the staff room Victoria turned her attention back to the door. "Is that the new sub? He's cute!" she whispered to her friend. They giggled quietly and went back to their duty.
8:24 am. The head, Mr D, and depute head teacher, Ms K, went to oversee the tie duty Victoria and Emily were doing. The two girls couldn't speak to each other much when the teachers were there so they just had to get on with it. "Has the new substitute arrived yet, ladies?" Mr D asked. Victoria gave Emily a quick, impish glance out of the corner of her eye before turning her attention back to making sure someone was putting their tie on. "Yes sir, but I'm not sure where he went. Was he supposed to sign in at the office?" Emily answered. After seeing that the student had their tie on, Victoria turned her attention back to the conversation. "Well, yes, he was supposed to sign in." Mr D replied. Victoria put on her sweetest voice and said "Oops. Sorry. We should have asked him to sign in but I completely forgot that he had to. I believe he may have gone upstairs to the staff room though. Would you like me to go check, sir?" She always got away with everything she'd done wrong when she used that voice. Emily rolled her eyes at Victoria. "Yes, please. If you don't mind. Please apologise and ask him to come downstairs and sign in." Victoria nodded and sauntered off toward the staff room. However, when she got up there, the man was nowhere to be found. Victoria thought nothing much of it, after all, he could have gone anywhere along that way but, now, he could be anywhere in the school. She returned to the front door, apologised and explained that he wasn't there.
8:34 am. Chaos! The man came up behind Victoria and drew a knife from his pocket. Mr D and Ms K had gone into the office to deal with something before the 6th year assembly. Emily noticed that the students were just standing at the door, staring and not moving, but she couldn't figure out why. Suddenly, as Emily turned to look at Victoria, the man grabbed Victoria's head and pulled it back exposing her neck. Within a second she felt the cold steel against her neck and she knew what was going to happen. This guy was going to harm her in some way. Just like every other man she had known, except for the teachers at this school.
8:37 am. After much screaming from the students, Ms K had decided to come out of the office and found Emily crying on the floor with a sizeable cut on her arm. As she looked up she saw Victoria being pushed up the stairs to the staff room. "Oh no! What is he doing? Who is this guy?" she thought to herself. Something in the mans hand glinted in the light. It didn't take long to register that it was a knife. Ms K alerted the office staff to call the police and Mr D wanted to evacuate the building by setting off the fire alarms but Ms K pointed out that it might anger the man further. Instead, they opted to calmly tell everyone in the school to quietly make their way outside. Emily was taken to the first aider to get her arm bandaged up.

Chapter 2
Up in the staff room Victoria was shaking. The man had locked the door and taken his hat off before setting two chairs opposite each other. Victoria had been pushed into one and he was sitting opposite her with the tip of the knife pointed toward her. He was blind in one eye but still had the coldest stare Victoria had ever seen. She knew she'd have to fight her way out of this, but she didn't know self defence. "I really hope what I've seen on TV is enough to get me through this." Victoria thought to herself. "I hate that men always use me!"
