Once I got to my apartment, I rushed into my room, hurriedly brought out a box and started stuffing anything I could find in the box.
'I need to get to her, now! Hopefully, she isn't hurt. She can't just leave me like that'
I got my passport, visa and other credentials, the other things I needed to leave the country then.
" What am I forgetting??"
"Ticket! Damn it." I quickly booked a ticket, changed out of my heels into comfy flats and sped off to the airport using the nearest taxi, my flight was due to leave in less than an hour and I was already late.
When I reached the airport, after checking my passport and shit, I had to run up to meet up with the boarder pass before it got locked. Luckily I made it in time.
I settled in my plane seat and tried to get some sleep, you know, to calm my ever-anxious self.
'she's fine, she's okay, just relax...' And with that, I fell into a sweet but timed slumber.
"Madam, we've landed. Its time to exit the plane." a melodiously practised voice said making me open up my eyes and realize that I had landed in Italy, the one and only beautiful Italy that everyone talks about, unfortunately, I wasn't here for the view, I was here to find my mum, or what is left of her.
After exiting the plane I made my way to the exit of the Airport. I came out of the building, immediately finding a cab. After giving instructions to the driver on where to go, I relaxed, getting comfortable in the leather seats.
I know that you're probably wondering how I knew where I was going, well, my mom has lived here in Italy for a long while, as a matter of fact, I was born here. I know every where I need to know; the way to our old house, the way to mom's favourite coffee shop, and the way to her favourite club. So yeah, those are the first places I am going to check.
~~~~ 4 Hours and 3 Coffee cups later ~~~~
I can't find her anywhere, every place I went to, they would say that she hasn't been seen there for 3 days. The only place left to check was the Family House. You're probably wondering why I didn't check there initially, well it's because that house holds a lot of memories of a once-happy family that no longer exists. Once my father was brutally murdered, our family started falling apart, mom started drinking and sleeping around with her man-whores.
I couldn't handle it anymore so I left for New York. She tried to beg me not to go but seeing her with those people and bottles alongside the memories that the country holds was too much for me, I had to leave.
Here I am, in front of the house that I was raised in, a part of me doesn't want to enter because I know that what i'll see will not be good. The only way for me to ever find her is for me to walk through the double doors.
The gates were barely hanging on its hinges. The once beautiful garden now looks like it hadn't been treated in years. It probably hasn't. The double doors have bullet holes in them, the sight of them made me hasten my steps.
A feeling of nostalgia rushed over me as I stepped into the house making me shiver. A sharp gasp left my mouth and tears gathered in my eyes once I saw the interior of the house. All the furniture had holes in them and were turned upside down, there were blood splatters on all the walls. There weren't any bodies on the floor but from the empty patches, you could tell that there were bodies of dead people on the floors.
The stench of dried of blood was all in the air making the house stuffy and smelly. I ran upstairs when I didn't see my mum on the ground floor. I burst into her room and what I saw would scar me forever.
My knees sank to the ground when I saw my mother. She was there alright, but she wasn't. Her arms that were ripped from her body were placed strategically opposite her legs. Her blood seeped through the cream mattress making the crimson red liquid drip onto the floor. Her head was on the pillow, separated from her body. Her torso was lying in the middle of the bed with a note on her. I picked the note up and read it. I hurriedly dashed out of the house as I saw what was written on it.
I ran as fast and as far as I could. I had to or I would die. I had reached a safe distance when -
'BOOM!!!!'
They blew up the house. I don't know who but I'm going to find out.
I had no tears left to cry. The grief in my heart was quickly replaced with a vengeance as I saw the rumble left of my house.
I was now an orphan but I wouldn't let that affect me.
I would follow what the not told me to do and avenge my mothers death.
