Chapter One: Two Months Before
Edith Bordeaux, French name, American girl. She never cared much for America, hence the reason why she left for London to start a new life. So much for new life, she still has the same job she had back in Minnesota, working at a cafe named Speedy's. But what was so special about this cafe? Nothing, well except for the fact it's next door to the famous Sherlock Holmes.
It was a Tuesday, Edith hated Tuesdays. That was when Arthur, the manager, would hand her the janitorial supplies to clean the bathrooms. It's been like that for over a year now and Edith was getting sick of it.
"Why not give it to the newbie?" She suggested to Arthur, whom she had a crush on before she realized how jerkish he was. Arthur, with his perfectly shaped jawline and honey golden slicked back hair, thought about this for a moment before smiling and saying, "You're still the newbie in my mind. Now off to the bathrooms you go."
Edith rolled her eyes and took the mop and bucket to the bathroom. Behind her, the door opened and the voice of Mary Morstan said, "Is Edith here? Her mother is dead and she needs to leave." Edith smiled, her mother died ten years ago.
Arthur gently touched Edith's shoulder and whispered, "Looks like I'll get another newbie to do your fantastic display of mop water artwork. My condolences." Edith turned around and handed him the janitorial supplies with a frown. She headed toward Mary, who put her arm around her back and left Speedy's.

About a block away from Speedy's, Edith started laughing and Mary joined along. "Did he believe you?" She asked Mary. Mary shook her head, "Not at all, I think I already used it." Edith chuckled before asking, "So.... Who's your maid of honor?"
"I would say you, but-" Mary started. "But I refuse to be seated near or by the best man who everybody knows as Sherlock," Edith finished. Mary put her hand on Edith's shoulder, "Edi, I was joking. I picked Janine. Remember her from the salon?" Edith shrugged off Mary's hand and nodded, "Yeah."
"Will you be there for the rehearsal dinner?" Mary asked. Edith nodded, "Food I don't have to cook? How could I resist?" The two laughed again until Edith and Mary went their separate ways, Mary going to John's and Edith going to her flat two blocks from Speedy's.
~ Rehearsal Dinner~
Edith looked around the venue with an open mouth. It was beautiful. Everything was illuminated in the light and flowers on every table. As she was looking around the room, she heard a voice behind her, "You should close your mouth, you might attract flies."
Edith closed it and turned around only to see Sherlock Holmes. He was wearing just a regular suit with no tie. Edith looked down at her floral dress that went above her knees, "Sorry." And she walked away.
Mary was talking to John and a couple of other people before she noticed Edith. "Edi!" She squealed, "I would like you to meet my fiancée, John Watson." Edith smiled walked over to shake John's hand, "You must be John, hi."
John returned the smile and said, "You must be the Edi Mary talks about. So glad to finally meet you!" They shook hands and soon started small talk like, "So, what brings you to London?" Edith took a moment to think this over, "I wanted to start a new life."
"And did you?"
"God no, I still have the same job that I had in my hometown," Edith chuckled. John chuckled a bit in reply, "Sorry if I'm being rude, but where did you live before London?"
"No it's fine, not rude at all. I used to live in Marshall, Minnesota," Edith shrugged it off. She looked around the room to find Mary doing the signal. She turned to John and said,"I got to go. I'll try to talk to you later." John said goodbye and Edith rushed over to Mary.
