Imani drove away from her man's place of work feeling fulfilled. She was done with work and everything that had to do with it. Now all that remained was for her to chill and buy a new outfit for her gig. Saint had ripped off almost all the good ones she had and this seemed like a good time to relax. She stopped her car next to her main girl's apartment without even calling in advance and horned for her to get out and get in.
Kacey came out irritated as fuck and Imani could already guess why.
"Your roommates back at it again?" Imani asked, smirking as Kacey opened the door and jumped in.
"I don't even know what to do with that girl no more. She's dirty as fuck, addicted to drugs and can't keep her hands of her man." Kacey stated, counting her sentences with her fingers.
Imani rolled her eyes chuckling and put her car in reverse before backing out and into the main street.
"I've told you, you can always come live with me. It's no big deal." Imani said, shrugging and turning on her stereo but she put it to the bare minimum since she didn't really like music.
Kacey placed her head on the car's headrest and sighed before replying,"I can't impose on you and your man. Besides y'all need all the alone time you can get." She closed her eyes and listened to the soothing music.
"You know I'm supposed to be in college with you if not for unforseen circumstances. I mean I'm a twenty years old pornstar." Imani chuckled as she sped off, keeping her eyes on the road.
"You did what you had to do to survive. College ain't going nowhere." Kacey said, trying to console her friend.
"Where are we going though?" Kacey asked, trying to lighten the mood in the car.
"The mall. I have a gig tomorrow, half a million dollars." Imani replied, she picked up her shades from right next to her and put it on.
"A million dollars!" Kacey exclaimed. That's like, you don't even need to work no more girl." Kacey hit her arm playfully and did the neigh neigh in her car. Imani laughed, throwing her head backwards and then turned suddenly serious.
"Men, I don't know Kacey." She pouted. "Is it weird that I like doing my job." She chewed on her lip and looked to Kacey waiting for an affirmative response instead she met Kacey's cold stare.
"What the fuck is wrong with you Imani?" Kacey scolded. "We been waiting a long time for you to build something for yourself. What about college?" Kacey continued, mugging her.
Imani kept her mouth shut deciding to end the conversation. She blamed herself for asking advice from Kacey. She knew Kacey was the kind of friend you only took to the mall, took pictures with and all that stuff, for a moment she forgot the kind of person Kacey was. Judgemental.
"Bitches be acting like they saints." Imani mummered unintentionally and then set her lips in a thin line because she was sure Kacey heard.
They got to the mall and went straight to the bikini line. Imani led the way and Kacey followed, after all she was the one who had the credit card in hand.
Imani picked up a few lingerie for her nights with Saint and then a few for her gig. Her favorite color was pink so she got everything in pink except a gator which she got in black. Kacey also selected a few things for herself and Imani paid for them both. They walked out of the store and into the main mall before deciding to have lunch on their way.
Half way through their meal, a group of gunmen rushed into the store and asked everyone to get on their knees. Imani wasted no time in doing so and so did Kacey.
They did their business and walked away but not before Imani saw Andres's snake tattoo peeking from underneath his arm sleeves.
Imani kept her eyes shut praying and hoping he wouldn't see her and luckily he didn't.
After they were gone, the people who worked in the mall came around asking if anyone was hurt, Kacey and Imani ran outta the store as fast as they could and got into her car. She put the car in reverse and drove off.
"I could've swore I saw Andres back in there." Imani said, concern etched over her features.
"Wait hollup your Andres? the one you told me about from highschool?" Kacey asked worriedly.
Imani nodded her head and sighed.
Andres and her went way back. When no one was there for her, he pulled through for her, after both her parents died, he sent her through her last days of highschool and put food on her table but Imani didn't stick with him because she found out that was what Andres did. He found a girl, made her feel indebted to him and then made her his toy.
Imani was grateful she found Her manager Palm when she did. Andres was ready to pimp her out but Palm stopped that day, took Imani and never gave her back. Palm built her into the young woman she was today and not Andres. It was something she had to constantly remind herself.
She hadn't seen Andres since the day she ran away but she was sure he knew she was in town and that she lived around him. The thing that bothered Imani and made her unable to sleep at night was the fact that Andres never came for her, not once. It all felt like the calm before the storm.
A car swerved in front of her and moved to the right, the guy in the car rolled down his window and uttered a series of curses all sent her way. Imani readjusted her seatbelt and focused on the road.
"I'll just stop here before you kill the both of us." Kacey said from beside her and Imani laughed awkwardly.
"Sorry-" Imani started.
"Listen, you don't owe him nothing. You're who you are today because of what you've done for yourself, okay. Never forget that." Kacey said tapping her on her shoulder and giving her a cheerful smile just right about the same time as Imani pulled into her school's parking lot.
Kacey got down and gave her a kiss on her cheek which Imani reciprocated happily.
She was about to walk away when she spotted something or someone who stopped her in her tracks.
"Oh hell no." She yelled.
Imani got down to see what the commotion was all about.
Kacey was staring at a beautiful girl with a killer figure, she had her natural hair out and it was gorgeous, she also had a lip ring on and a skin that glittered in the light. Imani couldn't lie and say she was not jealous of this melanin goddess who looked this way without even trying. And it was obvious she wasn't even trying, who wore vans with a dungarees and then placed an apron on top.
"That's the bitch I told you about. My roommate." Kacey said seething.
Imani couldn't help laughing. She couldn't imagine how a girl who looked that innocent could do all the devilish things Kacey said she did on a regular basis. She was barely 5'2 and looked like she would snap in half any minute, her waist was that lean and yet her hips and bust were just the right size.
"She's wearing my Vans." Kacey whined, annoyed and mugged at Imani.
"Her filthy ass feet." She continued. Imani wondered how she even became friends with Kacey in the first place.
She rolled her eyes knowing how much of a baby Kacey could be, got into her car and rolled down her windows.
"I'm going to let you iron things out. This college life isn't for me." Imani hollered and pulled out of the parking lot.
Obviously, that little girl could do no harm in her eyes.
