Sixteen Hours

Chapter One

One thought had been nagging at the back of my mind. Well one thought and the fear that my legs may be permanently stiff. The small car I'm sitting in glides off the interstate and onto a highway as the thought in my head begens to get louder.

"Are you sure your parents won't turn us away?" I ask glancing up to the front seat, no one bothers answering.

My older sister, May sitting in front of me looks over her shoulder to send a soft reassuring smile.

"Well, Mason...they are my parents..." Olivia answered, her voice raspsing slightly.

It's the first words she said since we started this trip...which was roughfully sixteen hours ago.

From the window opposite of me, my twin sister huffed with an eyeroll. She speaks much louder then strictly necessary, "Parent's don't always have the greatest track record in this family." She glanced at me, "Or siblings."

I role my eyes, "Alexis-"

Gabriella the youngest, leans forward to rest her elbows on her knees, and groans. Which is her way of saying 'Shut up'

I took a deep breath and stared out the window watching the trees pass by. Home, Downtown Thomasville Illnois, isn't void of trees and we did have a less then sanitary park near where we lived but not this many...The foliage was a bit unnerving. I leaned back the best I could and closed my eyes...hoping to just ignore the time as it passed.

My phone beeps. I open the phone and glance at the message.

The text is from Addison. I glance at the new text but just start scrolling up instead of reading it, after getting the first of the thirty texts I've pointedly ignored her.

Addison-Hey! You're not here, we had a plan! Where u be fool??? Xxx

Addison- you could have mentioned you where ditching..meh Xx

I scroll past some not bothing to read them all.

Addison- End of the day. You haven't said anything. I checked your house(Yell at me later) please call or somthing! You're not at work I know I'm there and- I ordered a bean burrtio...yummy! Come eat it. Or...I'll feed it to the birds! Yes the one thing you always say don't do! I'll do it!!! Xxx

Addison- Hey...where are you? Was it that bad?? Do you need a hospital??? ARE YOU AT THE HOSPITAl I've been texting and calling all day!!

Addison- I swear if you're not at the hospital and this is one of you're moods I'll put you in the hospital myself. You know I'm leaving soon for my aunts and I have to pack, I should never have choose to stay for summer here if I knew you'd get all flaky...Unless the reason you've dissapeard is because of being sad about me leaving and not being their this semester GAH! Im so stupid I should have stayed its our senior year! We should graduate together! I'll call it off I still have a few days I think! Mason!!!!! New York can wait!

I sigh deeply but decided to reply.

Mason- Olivia is driving me and my sisters to her parents house. Assuming they don't turn us away I guess I'll be living here now. Bye, Addison.
