My heart was pounding like a hammer inside my chest as I ran from these zombie-like robots. Struggling to breathe I ran behind a building in a dark ally in attempts to catch my breath.
Gulping for air like a fish out of water I looked over and saw a child quietly weeping. Finally, being able to breathe again I slowly walk up to them, "hey now its gonna be ok." I say tenderly. The child scoots backwards quickly, knocking over a trashcan in the process. In the vague light I can make out a young girl's silhouette shaking like a leaf in wake of the new circumstances.
"Hey, don't be scared of me it's ok. I'm Amber Wills. I'll protect you," I introduce myself quietly. The girl scoots closer by an inch and looks at me intently before running into my arms and sobbing.
"It's going to be alright." I say soothingly as I pet the young girl's head. She sobs into my shirt while we stand in the frosty alley.
Out of nowhere I hear metal footsteps, and at least 4 pairs of glowing red eyes come into view as they walk into the alley, blocking the only way out. Tonight really cant get any worse.
I tuck the girl behind me and take a defensive stance. I promised this child protection and I'll be damned if anyone, or anything, puts a finger on her. Almost as if the robots were waiting for an invite, they charge at me and the girl.
Swinging my leg high my karate classes and all it's teachings flood my brain and I make solid contact with the head of the robot. It's head flew off of it's shoulders and made a loud clank as it hit the ground. The robotic body slinking to the ground with a thud.
I fight through the last three robots while keeping the girl behind me. Somehow I come out victorious, but my struggle isn't over yet. My experience in the alley meant I don't have time to take a break. I quickly hoist the girl onto my back, "hold on tight honey, I'm going to find us a safe place to stay the night." I assure her.
I bolt down the street with the child on my back in search for shelter and praying to whatever god is listening that we don't run into any more robots. I must have run about 3 miles when I found an abandoned convenience store. I quietly step into the store being attentive for any possible threats as I gather food, water, and first aid supplies into a bag. Hopefully we wont need it, but I have a feeling we will. Along with the supplies I grab a bat and a knife as weapons for protection against any looters or robots that may be unfortunate enough to cross my path.
I gathered my items and took the girl's hand, "come on lets get out of here before we get caught in another bad situation," I instruct quietly. As we begin to leave, I make eye contact with a group of four or five people. Fuck, the odds are really stacked against me tonight aren't they.
A/N: Sorry the chapter is a little short but I am still getting used to writing books lol. I hope you enjoy it so far! Until next time my lovelies!
