Screams filled the air as soldiers were either eaten or roasted alive by the chimera. Jorel gritted his teeth while looking for an opportunity to strike, he and Aron were among the last of their battalion, the future of their people was resting on their shoulders.

He watched in horror as George rushed forward, sword outstretched, aiming for the goat head. At the last second before impact, the lion head turned to him and decapitated him. The goat held onto George's neck with its teeth, shaking its head, causing blood to spray everywhere.

George's sword had been embedded into the chimera's side however and all three of its heads roared in agony. Aron saw the chance and leaped forward, his twin blades flashing as he drove one into the goat head's neck and the other missed the lion head by a millimetre.

One twitch of Aron's hand was all it took and the sword in the goat's neck cut the head clean off. All that remained were the lion and the dragon heads, the serpent tail of the chimera having been cut off by Jorel earlier during the battle.

"It can't crave that mineral anymore." Aron grunted, dashing back to Jorel before the enraged chimera could attack him.

"We're fighting a motherfucking chimera, we could die at any fucking second and you make a goddamn meme joke? Are you fucking kidding me?" Jorel growled at his boyfriend, keeping his eyes on the chimera as it continued to breathe fire everywhere.

"Couldn't help it." Aron replied, smirking as he dodged a stream of flames.

Jorel sighed and glanced around the battlefield, sadness filling him as his gaze landed on Danny dragging George's body off to the side, tears falling down his face as he clung onto his boyfriend's headless body.

"Distract the bastard chimera." Danny called out, "I'm gonna bring George back."

His hands glowed golden as he placed them over George's heart, muttering a spell under his breath. A blue light enveloped the two of them, beautiful monarch butterflies flying out from the light as it faded. Danny's whole face brightened as a now alive George sat up and grimaced, his hands feeling his neck.

Jorel grinned, their tanker had been brought back and now they had a better chance of winning. Danny was exhausted, his magic having been nearly depleted. George kissed him softly and stood up, summoning a mithril sword in one hand and a kiteshield in the other.

"Let's get this son of a bitch." he growled, eyes trained on the chimera.

Its remaining two heads turned to him, the lion roaring excitedly. Taking this opportunity, Jorel aimed for the lion and fired, his arrow lodging in the creature's eye as it turned. The lion roared again, this time in rage and pain. Jorel sent another arrow, smirking as it hit the lion's other eye.

Now with only one head able to see, the chimera charged madly. Jorel dodged nimbly but Aron wasn't so lucky, the lion's jaws found him and held on tight. It pawed at Aron's torso in its mouth and shook its head, tearing him in two and sending his upper body flying.

Jorel screamed as he watched, unable to do anything. He ran towards Aron's upper body as the lion swallowed the rest. He collapsed to his knees, sobbing as he crawled over and bent down to kiss Aron's still-warm lips for one final time.

Danny stood up and George held out an arm to help him stay upright.

"Danny, you need to rest." he murmured softly, gaze still on the chimera.

"Give me your sword." Danny responded, holding a hand out. George glanced at his boyfriend, handing over his sword when he saw the murderous look in Danny's eyes. He stalked forward, snarling in contempt, his eyes focused on the lion.

Danny put the handle of the sword in his mouth as he transformed into his alternate form of a lion, charging for the chimera. The dragon head was staring at Jorel who was still crying over Aron's body, it got ready to breathe fire but stopped as it heard Danny approaching.

The lion head turned blindly in Danny's general direction, relying solely on its hearing to determine Danny's position. Danny leaped forward, transforming back into a human and grabbing the sword with both hands, driving it straight into the lion's neck.

"You die today, motherfucker." he snarled, landing on the chimera's back.

He pulled his sword out as the lion head died, slicing the dragon's head off angrily. George stared in awe, rushing forward to catch Danny as he fell off the chimera in exhaustion.

"You've used up nearly all your magic." George murmured, holding Danny close to him.

"Nearly." Danny mumbled, "So many people died, I can't bring them all back."

"The other healers might be able to, baby. It's all over now, we did it."

"Aron." Danny said, pulling away from George to stumble over to Jorel and Aron. "I need to bring him back."

Jorel stared up at him, tears still streaming down his face as he watched Danny place his hands on Aron. Danny began to mumble a spell under his breath, his hands glowing golden again. This time a pink light enveloped Aron and Danny as the smell of smoke and blood filled the air. The light faded and Danny collapsed as Aron sat up with a gasp, now whole again.

"Danny!" George yelled, sprinting over and picking Danny up. "He used up all his magic." he murmured.

"It'll recharge." Aron muttered, hands feeling his waist where he had been bitten in half. Immediately he was tackled by Jorel, Aron wrapped his arms around his crying boyfriend and began to cry as well.

"Come on, let's get back to the General." George said tiredly, "We did it. We killed the chimera."

Jorel grinned and helped Aron up, the two of them leaning against each other as the four of them walked back to the city. Well, three of them walked, Danny was carried back.

Later that night, other monsters would come across the rotting corpse of the chimera, the soldiers had been told to bring fallen comrades back but to leave the chimera there as a reminder. A reminder that the city would not be so easily taken.
