The next day, the two families held a formal engagement ceremony for Shivika, in which they were officially announced as engaged. It wasn't too big of a celebration, upon Shivaay's demand because he wanted to keep it simple, just how Annika liked it.

One year later

One year had passed since Shivaay and Annika got engaged. And a lot had happened in these 365 days. A lot had changed.

And it was perfectly evident in how Shivaay and Annika were now living their lives.

Separated.

Shivaay still didn't know what was it that had happened, just two months after they got engaged happily, that made Annika take this decision.

Today when he woke up, he wasn't feeling too good. Ever since that incident, the actual Shivaay was lost somewhere, giving way to a heartless human being, like a living, breathing corpse, who was surviving, but not living.

He had restricted his movements from his office cabin to his room and vice versa. Also spending a large amount of time at work, he had begun to lose track of time, and stopped caring about himself with regards to food and health.

Almost like he had no reason to live anymore. He knew he had his family, his parents and brothers, but yet something was missing without which everything felt incomplete.

He had forgotten how to smile. One incident had taken everything away from him. His childhood best friend, his love, his home decided to leave, and took everything else with her.

And today was one year since the happiest day of his life. The day he proposed to the love of his life. He had made her wait so long, and when he finally did, there was happiness all around.

Until another day, two months later.

*Flashback begins*

"Shivaay!" Annika came barging into the room, looking extremely angry yet lost.

Shivaay came to stand in front of her, and seeing her angry, wrapped his arms around her waist.

"Kya hua, Annika? Tum itne gusse me kyu ho?" He asked her, and pecked her nose.

She pushed him back, and unwrapped his arms from around her.

"Samajhte kya hain aap apne aap ko, haan?" She asked him, taking him by surprise. What the hell happened here?

"Matlab? Kya...kya keh rahi ho tum?" He asked her in utter confusion.

"Aapko kya lagta hai? Aap mujhse aise thodi si pyaar bhari baatein karenge toh mera gussa shaant ho jayega? Nahi!" She told him.

"Annika, shaant ho jao. Aur pehle mujhe yeh batao, ki tum itna gussa kyu ho? Mujhse koi galti hui hai kya?" He asked her innocently, and Annika closed her eyes. How was she supposed to tell him what she wanted to if he was going to behave so cute?

She opened her eyes again, and looked into his ocean blue ones. She needed to do this.

She came out of his hold on her shoulder, and started speaking.

"Shivaay." She said, and taking his hand into hers, placed her engagement ring onto it.

"mai yeh sab aur nahi kar sakti, Shivaay." She breathed hard, "Aaj se aapka aur mera rishta, hamesha ke liye khatam." She said, not looking at him until she ended, and letting go of his hand, left him behind.

The engagement ring dropped from his hands onto the floor, making him close his eyes behind her as she left.

What in the world just happened?

Did she really just....

Shivaay dropped to his knees. She gave him no reason, and being absolutely annoyed without any proper premise, broke off their relationship and went away.

A stray tear fell from his eye, but he wiped it away. Standing up quickly, he ran after her.

If she really wanted to end it, it was okay. He could do anything for her happiness. But he wanted to know why.

He wanted to give them a complete closure. It won't be in the way he would want, but atleast he won't be left thinking why for the rest of his life.

But by the time he reached downstairs, he saw her leaving through the door, and her ring dropped from his hands again.

"Annika...." He said from heart one last time, not knowing what happened or whether he'll get to do that again.

*Flashback ends*

It has been almost a year and he still had no idea what happened that day, and why.

He turned sideways to look at a picture of him and Annika, from the day of their engagement, and then, took out her ring from the table drawer.

Closing his eyes, he cried silently. He had loved her like nothing else. Hell, he still did.

What had gone wrong?

"Bhaiya..." He was brought out of his thoughts by Rudra's voice.

"Kya hua, Rudy?" He asked, getting up from the couch he was sitting on, and walking to him after sensing the pain in his voice.

"Woh..." He pointed to something in his hand, "yeh, ek shaadi ka invitation hai." He told him, "aapke liye hai." He added as a whisper, and Shivaay closed his eyes. Even the word wedding had started to hurt him since that day.

"Kiski...kiski shaadi hai?" He asked him, looking away.

Rudra breathed a deep sigh. Closing his eyes, he exhaled again, before finally telling him.

"Annika...Annika didi."

Shivaay's head snapped in his direction at lightening speed.

"Kya...kya kaha tumne?" He asked him, not believing what he said.

Rudra was about to repeat when Shivaay's phone rang.

It was from Khanna.

"Bolo Khanna." He said, walking towards the glass door in his room.

"Sir woh," the voice came from the other side, "aaj deal ki closing hai toh Trivedi's ke saath aapki ek meeting hai." He told him.

"Trivedi's ke saath meeting?" Shivaay screamed, "lekin Harsh uncle toh dad ke saath London gaye hain na, toh kaise..." He almost question, before stopping because he knew the answer.

Damn it.

"Theek hai." He told him, and disconnected.

Ignoring Rudra who was standing in his room, he went out on his way to his office.

Today was going to be a big day.

For the past one year, he had ignored attending any meetings featuring the Trivedi's. But now that Shakti was not home, he had no choice.

Let's do this.
