"Zayn Jawaad Malik! You're out of your mind!" I yelled at him. I swung around at Harry, "Harry, tell him he's out of his mind!"
We were standing at the back of the school after lunch, waiting for the bell to return to our class. Beyond the basketball courts, I could see the tops of the trees in the old part of the cemetery. I shuddered.
But Harry just grinned, "Going to Dr Theseus' tomb sounds better than going to a scary movie. We can go and get our own real-life scares."
My jaw dropped.
Trust two of these boys to stick together!
"Listen up, you guys," I said, "just because Greg Horan tells you all that rubbish, you want to go and see it for yourselves. You're as loony as each other."
Zayn raised an eyebrow, "You mean you're not coming with us?"
I shot him a sarcastic glare, "What do you think?"
Harry laughed, "Hey, come on, Lou. You'll get a real buzz out of it."
"Are you mad?" Now my glare is fastened on Harry's grinning face. "Why would I get a buzz crawling through a hole in the fence into an abandoned cemetery to see a dead doctor's tomb?"
"Scientist, not doctor," Zayn corrected me.
"Whatever," I snarled.
"Well, I don't know, it sounds like a buzz to me." Harry was still grinning thay annoying grin of his. I wanted to slap his face.
"Louis," Zayn argued, "what do we always do on Saturdays? Go to movies? Have a burger? I think Dr Theseus' tomb sounds like something, well - kind of different."
"Zayn," I snapped, "just because Greg said you were a chicken if you didn't go to the tomb, you want to prove that you're not!"
"Ouch," Harry winced.
"It's got nothing to do with that," Zayn snapped back. "What if the stories are true? What if Dr Theseus does come back to life? What if there are lights and music in his tomb?"
"Zayn is right," said Harry. "Don't you think it could be interesting?"
"In a sick sort of way, yes," I retorted. "But the whole idea is a waste of time. There won't be lights and music, and you know it! I mean, I dont believe in ghost, do you?"
"No," said Harry.
"Yes," said Zayn.
I kept my temper in check. "Anyhow, what if we're caught?" I asked them, "what if the police saw us going in and arrest us or something? What will we tell our parents?"
"Nobody ever goes near that old cemetery," Zayn replied airily. "It's too spooky. And it backs on to some factories. They'll all be shut on Saturday night. So who's going to see us?"
Harry turned on the charm. "Lou, you've got to come with us. It wont be the same without you."
I looked him in the eyes. "OK. I will. But only on one condition."
Zayn asked, "What is it?"
"I want to bring Niall Horan along," I told him.
"Niall?" Zayn's eyes shot up in horror. "Niall the river boy?"
I glared at him, "Yes, and he's not a river boy, you stupid." I was adamant. "Niall's my best friend, and if we're going to do something risky, I want him along."
"Okay," Zayn relemted a shrug. "Niall can come along."
The bell was ringing, and our classmates began trooping toward the stairs. I took one final glance at the treetops in the old cemetery.
Louis Tomlinson, I asked myself, what have you got yourself into?
Harry was all smiles as we headed for the staircase.
"So it's all settled. Great! Dr. Theseus, here we come!" He rubbed his hands together. "Why don't we have a burger after school today and make our plans?"
