"Sarge, where are we heading?" Blackman asks.
"Back to Ada," Sarge's response was short and straight to the point.
"Why are we going to Ada?" Kellin asks.
"Some unfinished business," Sarge responds with another short response.
Meanwhile I'm in the back with Liam, Jessica, Johnny Boy and my mom.
"Kevin was a good man, better than the rest, he took Jessica and I in when I thought I had lost my mother," I tell them.
"He sounds like a great person," Johnny Boy responds.
"What'd he do before all this?" My mom asked Liam.
"I don't know, it was classified," Liam says. "I met Kevin three months before all this started and he was the only person who didn't judge me. Hell he even took up for me. Embarrassing as it all may sound." Liam still has refused to let a tear fall instead his face was full of anger.
"It's not embarrassing, we all need someone to take up for us from time to time," Private Jeffrey replies. "Or shit, to even save us."
Everyone goes quiet after he says that. It was quiet for a good hour or two until finally we reach an apartment complex.
"Okay, this may sound like a stupid idea," Blackman begins. "But, hear me out... I say we split up into two teams. There's fifteen floors."
I look down remembering how much I miss Kevin, Bill and fuck... my little sister. It breaks my heart to ever think about her. She was everything to me. Her and I were almost closer than Kellin and I. I feel the tears in my eyes begin to gain more and more fluid. Then I think about it and I know it may sound harsh, but this world was too crucial for such an innocent sweet girl.
Kellin approaches me and puts his arm around me. "Me, you and your lil girlie." Kellin pauses. "On second thought. I'm going to go with mom."
"I'll go with these two," Liam walks up.
Sarge and Blackman approach my group. "We're with them." Blackman says.
Everyone is in agreement with the teams.
"Alright. Let's move out," Sarge says calmly.
"How is everyone so numb to all this?" I ask after we reach the thirteenth floor.
"It's simple, we aren't. We just know we have other people to take care of and if we die. Who'll take care of them?" Sarge pauses waiting for me to respond which I don't. "Look, ain't we a team? We need to take care of each other. If not, we'll lose each other. One by one. We'll never survive this world if we don't keep our minds straight and work together."
"Do you know what the fuck it's like?! To lose your friend. The closest person to you. The man who took you under his wing?! Hell even your little fucking sister?!" I scream.
"Yea. I do, I lost my whole family. Wife and son includ..." Sarge pauses. And puts his pointer finger to his lips telling us to be quiet. Then he points to the room next to us. "Blackman, take point." Blackman walls up his M60 in hand pointed at the doorway.
Liam behind Blackman his silenced M4-A1 with a fore grip and a ACOG scope pointed at the doorway as well. I'm behind Liam with a new gun that Sarge gave me, an M16 with a Grenade Launcher on the bottom of the barrel and a tactical laser finally a 60 round extended mag. Jessica walks up with Generals Desert Eagle and Sarge is in the rear with his M4-A1 with a silencer a black fore grip a comfortable looking stock and a cushiony looking grip and an acog scope. On Sarges back he's carrying a Barret 50 Cal. and on his waist is a silenced M9. So yea. We're strapped.
A roar that would've scared a lion came from the room we were about to enter. Everyone stayed quiet and tried to stay brave as the roaring continued.
"Ahhhh..." a scream from the lower floor echoes throughout the hallway and that was when I faced my first horde. Those beast came flooding out of the room in swarms. Everyone opened fire almost immediately almost as if it was our first instinct.
"Everyone, back down the stairs," Sarge yells. "NOW!!!!"
Everyone does as told and runs down the stairs almost tripping over each other. Another horde comes from the bottom floor as well. And the one that was behind us comes rushing at us.
Sarge makes the first move towards the window and jumps out, I for one expected him to fall straight to the ground and die. Instead he landed on the roof at the tenth level. Liam jumps out next. Followed by Jessica. Then me and finally Blackman.
The hordes leaped out the window after us instead of one by one though, they came at us with seven or eight at a time. Sarge motions us to follow him. He jumps onto the next part of the roof and takes off in a full sprint. Jessica goes next followed by me, Kellin and Blackman. Johnny Boy on the other hand stays put with my mom.
"Go, we'll catch up," Johnny Boy yells. I turn around for a split second before Kellin pulls me to follow him.
