Chapter Fifteen
Turns out I actually did fall asleep on the couch and I woke up with a start as little hands shook me.
Rose was already dressed in a red pinafore dress over a white undershirt and had brushed out her hair which was frizzing up on the side.
"Mommy let's go!"
I rubbed my eyes a little as I sat up, "go where sweetie?"
"To see Daddy!"
It then clicked and I frowned and pulled her into a hug. She was so excited to see him, I couldn't help but feel strange.
"Okay, but mommy has to shower and have breakfast first."
She let out a heavy sigh that made me chuckle, "It's all right, you'll see Daddy soon."
She whimpered and I got to my feet, holding her in my arms and marveling at how heavy she'd gotten. I knew she would mature faster than any human child but it was still a bit strange to witness.
After showering I started to make us both breakfast. By now, Tam and Micah were also awake and Tam joined us in the kitchen.
"So, excited to see your dad?" She asked Rose as she searched the cupboards.
"Mhm!" Rose nodded, bouncing in her chair as I scooped scrambled eggs onto her plate.
It's only been two days.
"Do me a favor will you?" Tam asked, turning with a box of pancake mix in her grasp, "when you see him, tell him if he doesn't give me what he took from me I'm going to have his balls ripped off him and stuffed up his–."
"Tam!" I flashed her a warning glare as she laughed before looking to Rose who was laughing like that was the funniest thing she's ever heard, "fine, don't tell him that."
"She is a child, " I commented.
"Well, you tell him then," she whined as she went about making the pancakes, "tell him that I'm sick of feeling like... you know when you leave home and there's the constant feeling that you forgot something? Yeah, that."
That's exactly how I felt but I didn't respond.
I joined Micah who was sitting across from Rose at the table, quiet as usual although he was stabbing his plate repeatedly with a fork in an off-beat pattern.
"I think Micah is hungry," I said.
"I'm almost done, just gotta flip these pancakes."
Micah was getting increasingly more agitated as we ate and started to bang on the table with his fists.
Tam rushed over, placing a plate of pancakes before him. Surprisingly, he quieted down a bit and she gave me an exasperated look. I only shrugged, it was unlike Micah but kids his age were often times unpredictable.
After breakfast we left them at the table and I hardly told Rose to transport us before we were standing in the foyer of the mansion, or what was left of it as we took in the scenery.
A fire seem to have ravaged half the building and it looked deserted. The walls were blackened and what little furniture I could make out was mostly burnt or in pieces.
What the hell happened here? I
Rose gripped my hand tightly, "I don't think Daddy's here," she whispered.
I held her close, "let's look around and see if we can find anyone."
After a few minutes of searching we came upon Slender's office which was surprisingly untouched by the fire.
