Dr. Bright x reader

Female reader, scientist.

This cannot be happening. It just can't be.
Denial just bombards your puny, shaken body. So skinny from skipping meals, hard at work. Too hard at work it seems. How long has it really been? 5 hours? Or perhaps 10?  You've lost track of all existing time. Time is all but a lie to you now.
The yearly report. Mandatory report. Over 100 THOUSAND words, signifying every single tiny detail of your every God damn day here in this forsaken facility, gone. All written in one sitting as well.
All of it, just gone.  No backup files, nothing, nada.
You hoped that fucking computer would burn in hell.

You grasp and pull your hair in frustration, wanting to just tear it out. Tears threatened to fall from your dirty face. You were usually composed, always on time, a trusted level 3. But this? You're just a mess now. Your restless face, black bags taking place under your eyes. Hairs a complete mess, all knots, you'd think it was a birds nest. Clothing unwashed for 343 knows how long.  You should have finished this report in 20 minutes, be carefree and have a couple days off after a year. Yet, fate had another path in store for you. It just had to.

Then you heard the door to the room open. But you didn't care enough to look back and see who it was, your headache from stress was getting so huge, you couldn't think straight at all. Who would even bother to come check on you of all people, if all you ever do is sit cooped up in what can't even be called an office anymore, and write useless overseeing reports for half of the year. Honestly, everyone is surprised to hear that you even have a boyfriend. A reckless one at that.

Speaking of boyfriend, you felt an unfamiliar hand contact your shoulder, making you tense up at the touch. Tears were just free-flowing now. So what? It's all useless, you'd probably be demoted anyways. You look behind you.

It's an unfamiliar fellow with an all to familiar amulet. That amulet... Oh how you adored it. It's ruby red shine that would keep you company during the dark nights... The intricate detailing of the metal surrounding the gem... Hell, even the chain holding the amulet together. All gorgeous.

The man had a careful concerned gaze for you. His eyes looking slanted outwards, his lips showing a frown. How disappointing, his smile would immediately warm you up.

"(Y/N), what is it?" He carefully asked, the voice not belonging to his actual self, but you couldn't ever forget the tone of how he speaks. Always hyped up, yet when it came to you, he would change to a careful tone, as if being too loud would break you like piece of glass.
He probably had an idea of what was wrong, but he was still asking just to let you vent.

" B-Bright, I can't do this..." You start out with a stutter, voice shaky from crying. Poor you, oh how I pity you...
" All my work is gone... I'm going to die!" You overreact. But it's completely understandable to be like this in your humble opinion.
You outstretch your arms to him and leap into Bright, hugging him. You begin weeping into his lab coat, his dry and creased up lab coat that smelled of cologne. Oh how he loved that stuff, couldn't catch him dead without cologne.
He wrapped his arms back onto you and rubbed circles with his hands on your back, in an attempt to comfort you.
" It's okay, (Y/N), no one is going to hurt you... You're safe." He softly whispered to you.

" I don't have time to make a new one..." You managed to choke out. This pained you, it was a strict deadline.
"  Then I'll give you more time.." Jack offered. Right, he was level 4, he could possibly do that... But... It doesn't feel right. Would it be like abusing power and avoiding punishment?
"  I can't..." You decline, oh but where are your manners? He's offering his precious time on something like you.
" Thank you though..."

" Don't. I'm not letting you accept any punishment no matter what, (Y/N)... Let's say you got the plague or something and you need more time."  How hilarious, even in this state, he's attempting to humor you. Or is he? Maybe Jack is being serious, you can never know when it comes to him.
Still, you manage to giggle, or at least let out something that slightly resembles a giggle, perhaps a happier cry.

Reaching up your hands to cup his face, you quickly kiss him, sharing some of your tears to him. But Jack doesn't seem to mind, in fact he kissed you back, perhaps not too confidently, but enough to let you know he doesn't push away.

" You're right... I can do this." You wipe your tears off into your dirty sleeve. It's not the end of the world, you can still write another report, not as detailed but you could still pass it. You're not really going to choose death over writing for just about 10 hours, are you?
"Yeah! You can. You're the almighty (Y/N) after all." Jack encourages you. And at last, he cracks a soft smile to you. Just for you.  Such a goofy smile, it could cheer anyone up real quick. And it seems as if his smile is contagious, because now you're both smiling softly at each other, holding hands, thinking:

As long as we have one another, we can do anything.
