He was distraught. Karasuno had really done it, they beat them. Aoba Johsai isn't going to nationals.
Oikawa could feel the tears swelling up in his eyes after that hellacious game, however he knew he had to hold himself together for the team. He had to be the strong one. He always had to be the strong one, that is the captain's job after all. Even though the nausia of deafeat lingered in his throat, he couldn't show his vunerability Infront of kageyema; that would be humilating. Oikawa had to show he was better than everyone even when losing the match. Whatever it took to be the stongest person in the room, even if that meant oppressing his emotions until out of sight. He knew his emotions would spill out soon so distracted himself by consoling his tear-ridden teammates. However, this just seemed to be making him feel even worse, convincing himself they lost because of him. Oikawa believed the loss of the match all rested upon his shoulders therefore it was him, and only him, that made his teammates feel this disraught. Being consumed by guilt and dejection, Oikawa didn't realise his usually insensible teammate - and childhood friend- Iwaizumi had tears streaming down his face, a spear of sorrow peirced Oikawa's aching heart, the mere thought of fabricating his bestfriend's sadness deflated his soul. It seemed, at the time, his precious 'iwa-chan' took it worse than anyone else, at least it appeared that way. In this moment the Captain felt useless, unwanted and unnoticed, nothing could change that, until..
Oikawa's sweet brown eyes met Iwaizumi's from across the room. Iwaizumi suddenly felt embarrassed to be crying Infront of Toru. Confused why he was this flustered by Oikawa merely glancing his way, he quickly shifted his eyes to the floor, heart thumping in his chest. Although, oikawa seemed to be feeling almost exactly the opposite to 'iwa-chan', his heart plummeted when he realised Iwaizumi had tears running down his handsome face. Oikawa just wanted to wrap his brawny arms around Iwaizumi's shaking body, to give him any ounce of joy or relief but assumed that may make Iwa uncomfortable (or he may have just punched oikawa square in the face). He is -and was- a hard to read guy. You could never know what he was thinking. Though in actuality Iwa was craving some physical contact to distract himself from the pain of defeat and failure. Which was EXTREMELY rare. Like I said, a hard to read guy.
In the end after the severe amount of overthinking from both parties, the two of them were too nervous to actually interact. The eye lock created an unreasonable amount of tension between the two for the few minutes they had to stay on court after the game, but this was nothing to compared to what was to come later..
